  1. Can anyone recommend a good canvas place in the Christchurch area? I need sail cover, dodger zips and rail cloths all restitching due to UV. Fabric is still good.
  2. According to Wikipedia, the late eighties models are the ones to avoid, would that tie in with your bad experiences? My experience, which was prior the then, is reliable and near bulletproof.
  3. These people have 200g cloth at 1300mm (50") wide. Isn't this what you're looking for?
  4. Is this any use? https://shop.ifsl.co.nz/products/fibreglass-cloth
  5. I'm South island based, so I rely on online stores more than people from the great metropolis up north. I've had some good gear and good advice too, when I call them.
  6. Bought quite a bit from them and no problems. Not sure what the question is about as there are lots of online retailers out there, so why this one?
  7. I have 20V brushless De Walt and it's got bags of torque. I don't give it much abuse though, so I can't comment on the gearbox.
  8. Mine are dual purpose left and right handed. You just flip them over. I've painted mine red on one side and green on the other.
  9. I have two spanners, a metric adjustable and an imperial adjustable. Sorry, couldn't help it. If I hadn't someone would have.
  10. MCP, Battery EMF is the correct term and has been since I did my electrical technical education, many years ago. On technical matters, that is how think and speak. However, I.T. (Matt) is correct and terminology needs to be appropriate for the forum and discussion subject.
  11. Fair cop IT. I was in full on mobile phone typing mode, which takes up about 90% of my brain power just to maintain legibility.
  12. .... What about the battery EMF which is increasing as the battery charges? You can't say that the resistance is the charging voltage/charging current. The battery internal resistance will be (charging voltage - battery EMF)/charging current. I'll be generous and suggest I=R/V is a typo on your part.
  13. sailboatdata.com has data on the Raven.
  14. They were a pain in the arse on Lake Erie. Used to keep pulling us over for staff training. They do a good job of enforcing the rules of the water though. Issuing speeding tickets checking if carrying life jackets, fire extinguishers, intoxicated skipper etc. Once pulled me over for a nav light being out and we're very polite and helpful.
  15. No, but I have seen them shitting in packs.

    Anchor chain

I think it's really down to scope the anchor's ability to bury itself and the sea bed. For a 10:1 scope, the example Chris has used, the % of the force in the rode that acts in the horizontal direction will be 99.5%. The % of the rode force in the vertical direction will be 9.9%. If the anchor is of a type that digs in easily and the sea bed has enough sheer strength, the downward force created as a result of the flukes digging in due to the horizontal pull, only has to have a vertical component of greater than 9.9% of the force in the rode. When you reduce the scope to 5:1, the angle
  17. Thank you. As a new member, I was beginning to wonder what I'd signed up to.
  18. Has anyone had any experience with Cav 32 chain plates? They're glassed in and impossible to inspect in-situ.
  19. Thank you for all your advice. I only really asked the question in case integration led had to compromises, but it appears not to be the case. Thanks
  20. Thanks for your prompt replies. Looks like integrated is the way to go.
  21. I'm looking to buy a PFD and harness for coastal use and maybe further afield down the track. I'm not sure whether to go with integrated or separate harness. Anyone out there with opinions either way? I have searched for this, but couldn't find what I wanted, but if it has been covered already, please post a link.
  22. His first trip to Hawaii and back, video "Alone together" is his best. The book is well recommended too.
