  2. Closed down about 6 weeks ago, the council wouldn't negotiate on the price of the lease apparently so the kids decided it wasn't worth it to keep it open, great shame
  3. We have a very active and large percentage of liveaboards here in Whangarei. Just counted in the 30 boats around the berth I am on we have 22 that are liveaboards. You couldn't get to much further away from where you are now thou. I would suggest ringing and talking to a cat-1 issuing agent, a meet up with them and talk about your options would be a good step in starting your plans.
  4. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/594194041096239/ Sailing boat Auckland, Auckland · about a day ago · $1,000 Automatic transmission The Squid is a 6m sailing boat/outrigger canoe. she is constructed of plywood and will sail or motor with 2 or 3 people aboard. I’m keen on a project that has just come up so am interested to see if anyone else wants this magnificent adventure craft. There is space inside for one person to sleep or a couple to hide from rain. Feel free to message me with questions.

    NRC on fan worm

They dived on the boats up here at the town basin this week. Will wait to see what they say but will be interesting to see what they do about all the marina structure. Will they put it in the too hard basket like Marsden cove??

  15. Well was having a talk to the marina manger yesterday afternoon and apparently they are not allowed to dive on the boats at the moment. It is against OSH regulations as there has been two sightings of a leopard sea in Whangarei Harbour.....
  16. Peter Freeman in the 80's circumnavigated in a home built 32ft Hartley Ferro, held the world record for fastest sub 50ft boat non stop.
  17. 32 ft yacht on pole mooring right next to the canopy bridge in Town Basin Marina in Whangarei, approx 10m row across in sheltered water. $125 per month, shower block etc 10m away and must be the cleanest marina services in the country. However over the winter you can talk nicely to the marina office and pop onto a vacant marina berth now and then to sort bits and pieces as needed. Normally spend one to two months on one over the offpeak season for no extra charge. Yacht is 100% off the grid thou which helps. Did pick up a marina berth in Marsden Point two summers ago for $100 a week with full services for a change of scenery.
  18. Josh is not concerned about his situation because he is already going down that road at the moment. He currently has operated a whitewater rafting business for many years that is under the MNZ and he is happy to comply with the rules etc. It appears that he is more concerned about they way he was approached and the lack of transparency over the situation. As he said, it was going to happen for him anyway as he wants to be able to charter and as he does so with his other business. It appears that is was more to bring this to attention as he feels that it could be something that would start to impact on the recreational fishermen and their boats. The thin edge of the wedge...
  19. I have always been told that there are two types of sailors, those that have run out of water under their boats and those that are going too, I am of the first variety......
  20. x2 I found that with my 9.9 4 stroke it was a huge PITA to lower and raise. It would not unlock on one side if it was not pulled up dead center on the release bracket.
