    SailGP

Bang on CP. After all the experience Auckland has had with Americas Cups etc, hard to believe our esteemed Civil Servants and SailGP couldn't make it work.
  2. The Wooden Boat Festival was fantastic. Hopefully, the level of interest warrants it becoming an annual or bi annual event.
  3. Makes me think about having smoke detector(s) for quick response. And the important of having the grab bag ready to go.
  4. I'm wondering how effective the 15mm collapsible / sectional tent poles would be? Especially if applied to a 3 metre wide boom tent. They looks to be available at Mitre 10 and Marine Deals (in a week or two) https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/kiwi-camping-fibreglass-tent-pole-kit/p/217875 https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/kiwi-camping-fibreglass-dome-tent-pole-section-15mm-qty-5
  5. Compressor Freezer and Fridge system has been replaced on Oliver Sudden. It was working exceptional well, regularly froze beer cans in the short trips going to and from racing. Only replaced because it developed a copper pipe leak deep within the insulation and the repair required complete deconstruction of Freezer and Fridge cabinetry. So, I've switched to 12v, suits my usage, especially shore power. Compressor Freezer and Fridge system - Sanden SD 508 Compressor - Copper Raw Water Heat Exchanger (approx. 700mm long painted black) - Flexible connecting pipes - Emerson Liqui
  6. @vortex I've just replaced my Mariner Oven. Oven stopped working 2023, so decided not worth repair, and replaced with new. Was planning to sell for spares and parts. I'm Auckland based. Message me if interested.... Cheers Scott
  7. Perhaps first check for other SR 26s here... http://phrf.yachtingnz.org.nz/# If you need some sample names, search SR26 and SR 26 on the https://www.yachtingnz.org.nz/boat-search Cheers
  8. Looks like divers have now found small, 20cm to 30cm patches of the underwater plant growing in the Hauraki Gulf near Kawau Island. Will we get an anchor ban around or near Kawau? https://i.stuff.co.nz/science/132504837/immediate-action-needed-after-invasive-seaweed-found-near-auckland
  9. Impressive start and race from Hard Labour. Well done Cam. Respect to Psyche for the spinnaker at the start too. Hope the crew and boat are on the mend. Not everyone saw Prism try for the spinnaker on the reach to the Noises. It was a gutsy effort.
  10. you could try https://www.sailbrokers.co.nz/spinnakers.php
  11. BBYC sometimes uses Navy Buoy on Harbour Courses. We used it about three weeks ago. There was an inflatable round buoy instead of the old steel barrel buoy. Not exactly easy to see... We just assumed it was a temporary measure to repair the old Navy Buoy. It had been getting rustier and lower in the water lately....
  12. Wishing I had posted this a few weeks earlier... BBYC Two-Handed Series for 2022-23 has been expanded to 6 races over 3 weekends. The weekend start and finish are at Motukorea Racing Bouy. Easily accessible for plenty of Auckland based Two Handed yachts. This is open to Non BBYC Members too. Race 1 26 November Round Rangi Race Race 2 24 February Race 3 25 February Race 4 26 February Race 5 11 March Race 6 12 March Race 2, 3 and 4 is a full weekend, with two overnighters. Start and finish expected at Motukorea Racing Bouy. Ra
  13. Fineline Advantage Dyneema is great. I find the limited colour choice, restricts how much I'll use.
  14. Looks like a few additional entries for the 3rd race. There's now 51 in Evolution Sails 2 division!
  15. BP. Try the YB App on Android. Seems to work well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yellowbrick.raceviewer&hl=en_NZ&gl=US
  16. I bought some lead ingots from these guys about 2-3 years ago.... https://www.dlm.co.nz/leadsheet.html I've got a 17.5 kg block of lead if you're interested. Clean and ready for melting into a secret project. Leftover from a previous project.
  17. We found Soft Shackles helped with timing the Genoa and Jib in. Always the same size, not like a bowline. So better as a reference for timing. Also, the bowline on the sheet needed to be very small otherwise it would touch or restrict the Jib car.
  18. I've found these instructions really helpful. https://l-36.com/soft_shackle_9.php Great little calculator to help with measurements and sizings. Added them to new Genoa / Jib Sheets. A small eye splice on the sheet means the soft shackle fits in tightly and stays there permanently. Agree with Carpe Diem. They take two hands, to attach and remove, which can be a drawback.
  19. A post from the Classic Yacht Association on Facebook this morning... https://www.facebook.com/ClassicYachtAssociation/
  20. Blue painted topsides, 2 pot AWLGRIP 2000. I've been using Grunt Klenashine to prepare. Very lightly, not to remove all of the blue goodness. Then polish with Grunt Supawax. Use a wool buffer with some success, otherwise resort to polishing off by hand. Local boat painter provided some guidance a few years back. It's always hard work, but super satisfying.
  21. I would imagine the Ronstan 50 would be fine on the Cav 32 mainsail reefing. It's a small main. MWL 500kg and BL of 1,500kg. If everything is lined up correctly and not twisted. Low friction rings would be ideal too. Make sure they're nice and big to accommodate the reefing lines etc... You just need to get familiar with soft shackles and loops.
  22. Fantail is perfect. I remember being passed by Fantail when I was a kid in a Round Waiheke Race. It looked perfect then and still looked immaculate in Bon Accord Harbour last summer. Some of the best proportioned yachts ever designed.
  23. We installed B&G Triton2 with Wireless Wind Transducer last year. Sourced from Neptunes Gear. It replaced broken and beyond repair Nexus system with wireless. I had already replaced the battery and bearingss. The B&G wireless had excellent range. The specs were better than Garmin. Also someone from Garmin's agent expressed concern about Auckland Sky Tower interfering with Garmin wireless transducers. B&G was confident about wireless performance. Installation was easy considering. Did spend over an hour at the top of the mast drilling and fitting the mounting pl
