  1. The one and the same Zoe, guys. I have worked with the marina team for five years. I logged in because I wanted to address Fish's post on the video (which I am very proud of, by the way). With regards to other Westhaven related matters I am very happy to take genuine questions via the standard channels - email is best - and pass them on to the right people. I can see you know how to reach me! Signing out now. Happy sailing, as always. Zoe
  2. Hi Fish, Good question: Panuku actually enables all sorts of stuff to happen at Westhaven to support the boating community and the marina - including the annual Westhaven Marina Day which is now in its fourth year, sponsoring the MRX fleet and Seacleaners (amongst others), maintaining an informative website, newsletter and Facebook page where clubs and others can promote events etc, and even Westhaven's Marine Car Boot Sales are just a few examples of supporting the boating community to make sure the marina is lively and thriving. I could go on, but Panuku's commitment to the boating
  3. Thanks for the positive comments. Fish - the project came about in order to capture some of the stories of Westhaven's past. Individual interviews with the people that are in the video will also soon be archived with Auckland Libraries as what is called an Oral History. Video was the best way to combine these stories with the images and footage that we had available. The video itself is Panuku and Westhaven branded but was created very much as a labour of love by those that produced it - because they love Westhaven and got very interested in the subject matter, which meant a modes
  4. Hi Priscilla, Our assessments show that berthage at Westhaven remains at an about average level compared with other Auckland marinas and is considerably lower than some. The marina itself is developed according to the Westhaven Plan 2013 on the basis of ensuring it is a world class marine facility for future generations, and at the same time, is opened up for the public to enjoy - the Promenade being the best example of that. However while the space is shared, berth holders do not pay financially for public developments such as the Promenade. You are very welcome to attend our next We
  5. Hi guys The survey is conducted each year because Westhaven Marina is ultimately owned by Auckland Council and they are keen to ensure that we are tracking well. We have enjoyed seeing our progress generally track upwards each year. However, the ideas that you contribute are very much studied, taken into account, and often implemented by the operational team. It helps a lot. So please do complete the survey. Someone mentioned they didn't receive one- if you are a renter or berth holder you should have received an email, perhaps check your spam folder and if it's not in there
  6. Park in the white zones and you'll be fine Grant! Unless you have a berthholder permit. As for Owha, well she'd definitely be a crowd pleaser. We'll add her to the invite list.
  7. Greetings all Hope to see Westhaven forumites (and forumites from other parts of Auckland at Marina Day on Sunday afternoon. Here is the info we sent out to customers yesterday. There are 60+ activities in total. Here is a taste of what’s on offer. All activities (and the sausage sizzle!) are free but bring a few dollars in case you’d like to buy something special. All aboard the Maritime Police's flagship vessel, Deodar 3, Coastguard's Lion, and the new Customs ship, Hawk V A special kids fishing experience with Legasea (the only day of the year you can fish at Westhaven!)
  8. Greetings Westhaven Marina is hosting its second marine Car Boot Sale of the season on the morning of Saturday 18 February from 830-1030am in the western carpark (adjacent to the marina office). All are welcome to buy sell or swap gear, and boating retailers keen to clear out stock are also invited. There is no charge to attend. To register please email info@westhaven.co.nz or call 0800 MARINAS and we will send you details of set up. The last one was great fun and there was a fantastic range of boating gear from dinghies and outboards through to ropes, electronics, and colle
  9. Hi K88, if you were in a position to secure a GPS fix of this rock at the time, please send it (or a diagram) to the marina team on info@westhaven.co.nz or call 0800 MARINAS. If it's rock from the sea wall we may be able to move it - if it's sea bed that may be a different matter. Cheers The marina team
  10. Westhaven Marina is hosting another car boot sale for boat gear in the carpark south of the marina office on the morning of Saturday 5 November from 9am-11am. We've got around 20 sellers registered, with all types of stuff on offer, come down and see what's on offer, and enjoy a complimentary sausage sizzle too. http://www.westhaven.co.nz/westhaven-new/news-events/car-boot-sale!/
  11. Very interesting thread guys. If this has happened to you at Westhaven, we urge you to please get a fix of the rocks with a GPS so that you can tell us exactly where they are. If it's basalt rock, then we can remove it. If it's ocean floor, that may be another matter. We would also be interested to know how deep the draft of your vessel is - the majority of our licensed area is to 2.5m. Our email address and contacts are easy to find at www.westhaven.co.nz Cheers from Westhaven
  12. Hi guys, Three piers were opened today at the request of the RNZYS to help facilitate the Red Bull and Classic Yacht Regattas. The gates will close again at 6pm. John B, please drop into the office and get your swipe tag programmed for the piers you want to visit, it shouldn't be a problem. Swipe tags have made a significant difference to the amount of stuff being taken off boats, and unknown people entering the marina. they can be a bit inconvenient but our system offers flexibility and ultimately our customers expect their boats to be safe above everything else. If you a
  13. ScottiE, we are working with clubs around carparking and have done for some time. Black Panther, the guy who wants to go for a midweek sail with friends simply needs to contact us to discuss parking arrangements. We recognise it's not a perfect solution, but it is part of a solution for the time being to what is a complex issue.
  14. We don’t tow after 4pm so race crew will still be able to park on Wednesday and Friday nights, like they always have done, and on weekends. In fact, the only change to the way it has been for the last several years, is that we have decreased the time limit from three hours to two, and we are enforcing towing where we had stopped it for a time. We need parking restrictions. Without them, the carpark will very quickly become full of CBD commuters and others taking advantage of free parking. The northern wall where the clubs are is a pinch point for carparking at peak times, but the wes
  15. Hi Motorbike, Did you attend our meeting for BEU holders (owners of berth licenses) and the public Westhaven Forum on Tuesday? We had a really good turnout of about 100 people and were able to explain a lot of this quite transparently and in detail, and it received some very positive feedback from both renters and BEU holders. OPEX is in fact not a profit making exercise for the marina owner. It is an exercise in cost recovery and the marina is run by the team with a strict eye on managing spending, whilst maintaining and improving the marina. User pays power and water was bou
