  1. With Westhaven pricing ever going north, your new ship is looking v attractive to me.
  2. Almost did in January with two tugs fighting hard to control a ship in strong Westerly , took her to Chelsea -then back down the Harbour when the wind died to the Port.

It was rather a lot more about the Iwi than the Hector that wasnt...
  5. How did it go -I saw some Milford piedies heading there on friday? Tricky scheduling stuff at this time of year, Classics to Waiheke , Panmure 2H 3L etc etc
  6. Dave Jackson bow in the background?
  7. Colin Bekesi would know-but I am not sure that he is still with us ...
  8. Actually with the volume of fuel on these ships it will not be burned before the Bug can grow, also mechanical damage can and will occur particularly with common rail engines and electronic injectors. The key point to know here is that no water in fuel = no bug . This goes for a frigate or a Reactor with a 1GM Yanmar. Most major Diesel manufacturers do not recommend biocides . Prevention is better than cure..
  9. I recall the one behind it , its GRP but has circumnavigated. (Gravel Rocks & Pebbles)
  10. The ketch? rig in the Tamaki looks fairly big?
  11. Interesting that those cover boats are still filling the entry lists today -ie there has been no revolution in design for local yachties.
  12. Yes constant fuel polishing like most offshore cruising powerboats??
  13. Look for another in two years.....Re the missing M class , not many have been racing of late but there was a lovely Silver Fern there and an X class.
  14. I second that, got soaked but it was great to see lots of old friends and a sailing dinghy display! Reminds us what we have missed in the commercial boat shows these days.
  15. The Aluminium Bronze and Monel bolts that were used here in the 70's -early eighties are way superior to most of what is available today.
  16. What time is the start?
  17. Though on the average cruising yacht space is at a premium and you are buying an expensive battery bank, an expensive proper marine genset (diesel) an electric motor and all the installation and room requirements that entails . Not entirely sure how a genset running through batteries to power an electric motor is more efficient than a diesel through a gearbox to shaft?. Then of course what happens to the large battery bank when it is had it. I have been involved in some of this stuff, lecky powered gunboats with hydro generation through Gori prop. Repowering existing cruising Cats with diese
  18. Absolutely right BK, fine for a Lake boat but for NZ coastal cruising and further afield not so much.
  19. The sea will do what it wants in its own time, regardless of mans efforts.
  20. The Oceanvolt went well with 888 till it was REALLY needed.
  21. Looks a suspicious amount of solar -maybe they are hoping to power her with lecky -anyone got a towrope??
  22. Not convinced that is potable.....
  23. There seems to be confusion about its name, was christened Bluebottle in Aussie -perhaps our young Navy ratings dont realise the significance of that name. All together now "Hes fallin in the water"
  24. The subject of this post was sighted in a Milford hostelry last evening at high tide -so obviously hoping that someone else will take responsibility for his lack of seamanship...
