  1. Replaced a couple of Chico 40 rudder stocks about 22 years ago after one snapped flush with the hull North of NZ . Yes they were alloy and I dont believe that big a diameter.

The first boat got towed back here and we put a new rudder on  (with SS stock) then she went offshore another couple of years later and main bulkhead came away after rigging was slack so the occupants got off and I believe she washed up on a reef somewhere.

  2. Seven will finish, Romany you have it there -these races require much thought and planning -and are really only suited to ocean going yachts that are happy enough (not comfortable, but capable) for hour after hour with 25-30 on the nose.

  3. Alloy shaft tapered at the top 😕 I think from videos that it probably just broke the bottom bearing housing away and flooded her rather than dropping out and piercing the hull.

  4. Did my one just before Christmas, genuine seals -and the bearings from a bearing shop about $150.00 for parts and two hours work (including making some timber shapes to press it together)

  5. Getting close over here, have had requests for an EWOF on two boats that I have -neither of which is ever plugged in to the national grid ! One does not even have any wiring on board !  (apart from outboard killswitch)

  6. Though strictly not a marine business, Neil and his sister looked after many of us Beaumont st workers , just one more sign of Panuku et al renting the industry out in favour of developers and their apartments.

  7. Any water/bug going through an electronic injector and you have a big expensive problem, our navy has already experienced this many years ago with some German built diesels.

  8. Almost did in January with two tugs fighting hard to control a ship in strong Westerly , took her to Chelsea -then back down the Harbour when the wind died to the Port.

  9. Actually with the volume of fuel on these ships it will not be burned before the Bug can grow, also mechanical damage can and will occur particularly with common rail engines and electronic injectors. The key point to know here is that no water in fuel = no bug . This goes for a frigate or a Reactor with a 1GM Yanmar. Most major Diesel manufacturers do not recommend biocides . Prevention is better than cure..
