  1. Beau Geste broken the record? about 5 hours exactly
  2. V5 at 32 knots on one sector! Mayhem led the race boats out of the harbour at pace, that Beau Geste certainly is a weapon
  3. She is very nice, and Priscilla I have seen many worse apartment interiors
  4. Wouldnt it be great to see a fly by from ETNZ as they did about three years ago before the start? Perhaps a little early in the learning to control cycle....
  5. Yes forecast looking good, starting to think I should have gone this year. Still to much work needed on other boats.
  6. The engine went out of production about 15 years ago, but there are genuine head gaskets available ex Auckland -I checked
  7. You could try the Yanmar dealers there are lots of them......
  8. We have the coastal records Auckland -Russell But what are the current Auckland to Kawau, Auckland to Te Kouma ? best times ? Anyone.....
  9. We were informed at the prizegiving that a number would be protested by the committee, and the boats were out there in the dark pointing to the offenders the error of their ways, but hey ho nothing occurred so that sends a different message to all of us I guess!
  10. great shots thank you

    Luna Rossa

They have more wetted surface in their shape than ours, with a similar approach to the problems.
  12. Bens Black pudding, we will have to wait for April to get real comparisons
  13. Whatever happened to that reptile that was always threatening to enter races?
  14. Last night many of us attended the launch of this new book,it is a wonderful addition to the NZ marine literature collection, if you have enjoyed Des' boats at any time I recommend you grab yourself a copy, make a cup of tea and enjoy the read. There are many parallels in the story for a lot of us who grew up pre 2000 making our own gear and boats and learning along the way.

    A new seal

Yes after listening to Giverny I was impressed by her growing knowledge of them , (there are at least 10 individuals resident around our coastline) she certainly knows a lot more than the DOC pair who spoke at Westhaven in 2016. Her feeling is that they are repopulating our coast and will continue with no one shooting or eating them now.
  16. For Tauranga north I agree with raz88 with the proviso that some areas have changed (silted up) since the updates finished in the Akkers book, still the best guide though.

    A new seal

The Orakei boys found firehoses work, the girl talking next week has turned happy teeth into her lifes work, I hope nothing happens to it...
  18. A true classic, and I see someone is sailing an RM yacht down here to sell (at the other end of the wooden boat displacement spectrum)
  19. Unfortunately you are one of many, I am seriously contemplating downsizing - still have my old boat, and getting rid of the Westhaven bill would be very attractive, the marina is really only for people who dont work or dont have to now. Two years ago in Cowes I priced up hauling a First 45 clean and launch after one week on the hard, convert to Kiwi$ and it was 1/3 of doing the same at Orams. we have too many layers off landlords taking a cut from Westhaven, I too noticed all the modest boats on marinas last year in Honfleur. Its like Parnell gone large on the land so not a down trodden area,
  20. Look forward to seeing if any of the current young Piedy sailors will hang up a good old fashioned squadron kite after the start and let her go... They all seem to run smaller kites now?

    Anchor Warp

If its a normal 88 the anchor winch is Manual, so i would always go for 14mm 3 strand laid polyester strong and it lasts . To keep you there you will require a proper anchor and a good length of short link 8mm chain first (Australian or Italian only) .
  22. I would like to know what is wrong with the above mentioned boats apart from lack of places to park them, as no owner wants to keep them more than a couple of years?
