  1. Nice tight race down the coast for the lead two near the Bay now
  2. The water is a lot deeper off the Milford start line than Narrow Neck-just saying. And starting around North Head means all records cant be used anyway.
  3. No but motor racing is becoming more attractive as the apartments creep down to the water at Westhaven and Panuku raises prices again and again
  4. And the tide is coming in till midday at Okahu Bay that day , so as long as nothing has stuck to your appendages will should be sailing in good water....
  5. The worst flow is out the end of Beaumont street, not off Parnell or the Orakei sewer so Devonport outwards should be fine and it will have had three days of tides by then
  6. I wonder if Akarana will let them finish in our polluted harbour -Friday afternoon?
  7. Any updates on this race where are they...?
  8. Galv chain should not be permanently immersed you should have black chain down there, galv only at the surface bit if you dont have a strop.
  9. Yes that is still the method, not seen them doing it since last summer, so these warnings are largely based on the modelling, anyone aware of any updates this week??
  10. Where as the Trans Atlantic kit boats built here did seem to sit upright even when awash -giving you a chance to bail out and continue.
  11. Didnt affect the yachts sailing up and down the harbour on a lovely evening last night either, I would have thought a leading yacht club would emphasise skippers responsibility and personal choice -much like I chose to go swimming each day during our first lockdown, "nobody dead, nothing to see here -as I said to the police man who watched us ancient locals swimming where we always do . He smiled and left.
  12. All racing cancelled for this week, Orakei sewer outfall is used everytime there is a heavy rain event -more than 12 times this year, we are heading back to the fifties when the M class and 18' fleet had to negotiate the seagulls off the outfall running constantly, almost as bad as the constant flows off Castor bay and the new one off Mairangi Bay -Robbie will be turning in his grave .
  13. Yacht clubs seem to be taking a strange position on it this time , blaming Rahui on cancelling races -instead of saying the wind is too strong which was the case last week. They never cancelled earlier in the year during the first Rahui, and nor should they this time -though I would not be keen on sailing an E7 through it... Ferrys and fishing boats are all operating , cruisers are cruising ...
  14. The one I really meant was the Mark Mills mini maxi Flying Nikka , she is quick, but in a sea?
  15. Yes, trials over, now the owner needs to learn to sail her, she is foil assist -not fully foiling. The chines and transom are supposed to stay leaned on and there are trim tabs aft to control fore and aft pitch. Be careful where those blades are when you come alongside in your rubber ducky.
  16. At all the recent car events I visited in the UK there were traction engines (big and small) operating and steam powered trucks , steam powered circus equipment etc. They were all pulling a crowd.
  17. Well actually yes -those are quarterly figures and million tonnes
  18. Well K4309 we are importing over 500T of coal each week to charge the Teslas so yes it is available , (from my POA contacts) just not so much high quality Westport coal as the old days.
  19. They used to make good money hosting parties and events around summer, perhaps the steam qualified guys have all got too old.
  20. It would appear from the last two days Herald reports -that the paper is lacking editorial oversight of the articles pasted up by their cub reporters -who dont even have a grip on the English language -dirigibles ! And even making up the story to the point that it was factually incorrect -obvious from the first pictures . An extremely sad event for those involved and left .
  21. Sort of looks like a big Lotus .. Pity about the rig looked good up till then
  22. Re foiling on big boats, there is already a new Maxi launched but they are having a long learning curve on controlling her....
  23. Come now Psyche -I will shout you a rum when you foil single handed into issy bay and the anchor self deploys with digital positioning in your Stewart 2050 model.
  24. During the 10-7 2007 storm all the moored yachts blew ashore there, and some across the road! Of course half the North Shore was without power too, I jolly well had trouble getting a Milford restaurant to serve me!
