    Cruise NZ

Are you looking for crew, or wanting a support vessel?
  4. You are not missing anything. They don't rotate.
  5. The Laser full rig has recently got a new sail design which lasts longer. So that quote above may be a bit outdated in that respect.
  6. Looks like a slow and painful race. It's a drifter! Most boats in the shorthaul finished: 6 out of 7. Lots of boats the longhaul have pulled out (sick of slatting sails). 10 have pulled out so far. Still a few racing out near Channel Island, and another bunch at the back of Barrier. Coppelia now have to motor for 8 hours to get to the prizegiving. Time Limit is 10pm tonight.
  7. Taurikura General Store, Whangarei Heads. Taurikura bay is about 1m north of Urquharts bay.
  8. Went in yesterday. Ronstan hardware is still 35% off. There are some good deals in clothing down to 60% off, but mostly huge or tiny sizes. Musto sailing gloves are down to $22 from $50, so good to grab a few spares.
  9. I've never dragged there. But I now prefer to anchor just off the beach to the west. Maybe you could try there?
  10. Panuku Development Auckland is pleased to invite you to the next Westhaven Forum to be held from 6.00pm on Wednesday 22 May at the Ponsonby Cruising Club. Be updated on our key projects including: The Westhaven Promenade Stage 2 for which construction is poised to commence in the coming months The Westhaven Marine Village, in its final stages of leasing The Pile Mooring Development Project which has received resource consent approval Works on Curran St and the proposed seawall that will make Westhaven more resilient as a marina and also prepare it for the arrival of Skypath Details of t

    NRC on fan worm

    SailGP

The new documentary features interviews with SailGP's co-creator, Sir Russell Coutts, talking to video images showing the F50's going through all phases of construction - some were converted from the AC50's used in the 2017 America's Cup, others were a new build.
  13. The steaming light must be at least 1 metre above the side lights.
  14. When I got my Cat 3 inspection done they didn't actually check the liferaft or dinghy, just asked what I would use, and where I would stow it. Quite a few people rent the rafts, and still get awarded the Cat 3 cert.
  15. These marina increases appear to be well above the rate of inflation or cost of living!
  16. “The Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions will make it clear that crew on boats without a life raft or dinghy shall wear lifejackets at all times unless the person in charge explicitly gives permission for them not to be worn” Greer continues. “We hope and expect that this change will enable an additional ten boats this year, or even more”. https://www.coastalclassic.co.nz/single-post/2019/04/10/2019-entries-open-no-life-rafts-required
  17. One brother tried to sue the other brother last year... "Brother has fallen out with brother in the face of declining profitability for their Auckland marine chandlery business. Faced with increased competition from online suppliers and new local competitors, Sailor’s Corner at Westhaven has seen annual gross revenue of over five million dollars in the 1990s reduce to $1.5 million by the 2010s." https://nzbloglex.blogspot.com/2018/07/company-innes-jones-v-innes-jones.html
  18. Maybe he should have luffed up, instead of trying to bear away?

    Suspend racing

The main benefit of suspending racing is so you can use your engine.
  20. Smallest boats entered are Elliott 7.9 and Ross 8. Biggest entered are Young 50 and Dickson 50.
  21. Been going since 1983. Sale starts this Saturday. https://www.yachtingnz.org.nz/news/sailors-corner-closing-down-sale?fbclid=IwAR1dAJhMLN2DyO6CwI7IlKqkuXLGAOEob-5WVRbzQuXoUN_e5LlTyN07nYI Wonder what will take its place? Another marine related business I hope. It is sad to see all the marine businesses being forced out of Westhaven - the exact place they should be. Why doesn't the council create a special marine business zone? Milk and phone companies don't need to be by the sea, marine companies do!
  22. Replacement footbridge to be built next year in time for America's club. Looks like it is a twisting or rotating type rather than a lifting bridge.
  23. The tide tables have been adjusted for daylight savings. In the past you wouldn't have seen this, as all times were in NZST, and the user had to manually add an hour for NZDT.
