  1. The other issue being that many modern boats it seems it quite hard to put a trysail track onto the mast apparently. Not enough room etc etc.
  2. Agree in all cases, however with modern forecasting how often statistically does a try sail actually get used? The last 3 boats i've owned all had try sails, had all sailed from Europe and none had ever been used. Saying that I have set one between here and Fiji mainly due to a baggy mainsail having sailed from Europe. It took me an hour to set it and then only had it up for a few hours. If you consider the extra risk of going on deck, the potential for the boom to toss you around etc etc i'd rather have a very keep 3rd reef me thinks personally.

    Cat 1

Interesting hearing the discussion about Cat 1 and possible changes coming soon. It seems that Tri Sails will no longer be required if you have a deep reef in the main, probably a sensible move l think. A huge focus on crew recovery and tethering is coming also, be interesting to hear but all common sense by the sounds of things. Seems they are keen on AIS and MOB AIS devices which I think again is good and makes sense. A focus on alternative steering options on board when the rudder decides to go fishing. A focus on having your emergency gear ready to go and no setup requi
  4. Done booked into Bayswater, see you Auckland guys sometime soon.
  5. Thanks Jon, we spent some time living aboard in Bayswater in 2009 and didn't find the wash too bad, however i'm sure their are more ferries these days.
  6. Hi team, seems there are no 13.5m berths in Westhaven available, does anyone have one to rent from next week until April? If not i'm contemplating either Bayswater or Pine Harbour, both have berths, which is best? Interested in Pros/Cons at each location for getting boat ready for going offshore next year. Cheers Tim
  7. I'm bringing this lot South to Auckland today, will take photos and if anyone wants to view, it will be at our office in East Tamaki. Re VHF, will check the model and get back to you.
  8. Iridium Sat Phone 9555, Cradle, Manuals, Cables for sale offers Simrad RS282 VHF Radio setup with DSC, cables, mounting cradle, speaker etc. Offers. Marinised Computer and Monitor on RAM bracket for mounting with some cables, GPS input etc, Offers All of the above can be made available in Auckland or until Sunday night in Whangarei. All gear was working when removed yesterday. Only replacing as I have other plans and gear that I am more familiar with I.e. Mac computers.
  9. Hi team, Can anyone tell me is the Target Naxtex Pro installed on my yacht any good? It looks old and possibly does not work just wanted to know if anyone knows if it works looks like it's superceeded by the sat phone and 4G on board but just checking.
  10. Hi Danpat, I've just been through the same decision. Our difference we were trading down to a smaller boat for offshore work. I had my sights settled on a Farr 1220 and had one surveyed. They are great boats but be careful, they are all getting on in age and the ones on the market at the lower end need a fair bit to get them to Cat 1. I've prepared 3 boats now for Cat 1 and the costs add up very quickly, I'd suggest if you can buy a boat that has been offshore very recently you will in the long run save yourself a bundle. All that small stuff add's up real fast, and most apart fr
  11. Thanks Ratings will be in touch. This boat had a new mast in 2010 before it's trip to NZ from Europe which removed the requirement for running back stays basically a stronger rig makes the boat easier to handle. See you all out there!
  12. The Battcar system is awesome makes for an easy raise of the main. Yeah the track should be fine will do a measure up next week and get into this. One more question anyone know where I can buy the gear to put a kit together to put myself up the mast safety using a climbing harness?
  13. It's done flew through survey, bought it today. After surveying and going over a couple of 1220's settled on this one, high level of maintenance, good engine and has most Cat 1 gear except a Tri Sail. Any ideas how to fit a Tri Sail to a Seldon mast with Harken track and Battcar already fitting, might be a low profile track up one side....
  14. The frame is galvanized and in very good condition. The delam issue is due to the hull shape and is quite common this one has been repaired already.
  15. Hi, does anyone know anything about these yachts? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=938832772 Looks nice, just wondering what people think this is really worth?
  16. Matt, is the B&G Zeus2 Series the same as the Simrad NSS Evo2 series by any chance they look identical
  17. This is not good really feel sorry for them. Looks like the sails are toast. Let's hope they find something.
  18. Farr 1220 why not! Good boats, we have just sold a catamaran mainly as it was more suited to offshore sailing and living aboard hence downsizing for weekending and occasional dash to Tonga possibly. Anyone know any problems with Endurance?
  19. Sold the boat looking to buy another! Any ideas downsizing financially so family cruiser 130 - 150k any ideas?
  20. Thanks heaps, boat sold boom! Negotiated me down 5% which is fine as it's a private sale. Onto another boat for me.
  21. Guys, Need a quick answer what typically does a broker charge in Auckland to sell a yacht i.e. what percentage of the sale price? Thanks
  22. So regarding Cat 1 does anyone know if you have in boom furling if you still need to carry a Tri Sail? I don't have one with current boat so thought I'd ask the question. Anyone know?
  23. Nice thanks for the replies. Out of interest what young 11's are on the market at the moment? I know one in Nelson which has 109k on it but given the price Fineline went for this seems high thoughts? Are there any others for sale?
  24. Hi, I have a mate looking to buy a Young 11 and i'll be helping him do the survey so thought I'd ask some questions. 1. He wants to take it offshore single handed, i have suggested installation of a prodder to add handling sails easier than a pole. Thoughts, anyone done this on a Young 11? 2. What are the pros and cons with these boats? 3. Given the age of the boat what areas should we concentrate on when surveying? 4. How fast is the Young 11? Are they good to windward? He already owns a Pogo 30 in Europe so this is his NZ yacht and he wants to use it to cruise up
  25. Sulphamic Acid works best with heat also. You would possibly be better using an aluminium corrosion inhibitor and regular passivation of the alloy surfaces could work also. Thus no need for Salt Away.
