  1. Yes, so very sad - but Mark is more forgiving than me . . Looks a lot like negligent homicide to me.
  2. One reason that sort of language is frowned upon is that it is often used in an attempt to intimidate . . . which should not be permitted in our sport. Reminds me of the time a crew guy on a Bene 36.7 threatened to "kick your ass" (that would be my ass) at a close mark rounding. Owner of the boat apologized, behavior was not repeated.
  3. As most of you know, one can also use Youtube for help in fixing almost anything, like an outboard impeller . . thousands of people post how-to videos on Youtube with no monetary compensation
  4. The algorithms at You-Tube's internet channel on my smart TV . . seem to have tapped into my reptile brain. They "recommend" that I watch replays of AC 35 from Bermuda So I did. Not having much in the way of a memory, my reptile brain does not know who won, but still gives me a little jolt of endorphins every time the Kiwis thrash the billionaire. What fun.
  5. Huge numbers of abandoned boats around, many because age and/or infirmity caught up with the owners. It would behoove all of us to make arrangements to pass our boats along before that time comes. In our case, the admiral & kids have zero interest in using or marketing the boat, so we will do a TOD title (transfer on death) from me to a local sailing non-profit. She's a beauty to me - but the rest of the family, not too much.
  6. Respectful coverage from the Gringo sailing media . . We're all in this together . . https://www.latitude38.com/lectronic/transpac-entry-loses-keel/?utm_source=l38_campaigner&utm_campaign=Monday_January_14_2019&cmp=1&utm_medium=email
  7. It may come down to who made the first dip to leeward. (To me, it is unclear from the description which boat made that move first) If B made the first dip, then A clearly should have held course. But as they neared, A may have thought that B was not going to change course, so A dipped first to avoid contact. (Not a good move, but within A's rights) So the issues are (1) how close were they when the first one turned down, and (2) who dipped first
  8. Good to have ya back - though we disagreed at times it's all good
  9. Most importantly, leave wonderous Aotearoa better than you found it . . there are a million volunteer opportunities that await. (Where you will also meet metric tons of new friends)

    Pogo 36

Thanks for the informed replies . . We pull the board (partly or mostly) up off the wind on these boats, but they have dagger boards - move straight up and down. (sorry for blown out sails)

In the real light stuff, I wonder if she might be faster with the board up . . off the wind only, of course (as pictured above)

    Suspend racing

Can I suspend the race whilst I do my turns?
  13. Do y'all want your wives and daughters to be fired up for the sport . . or do you not?
  14. One of the things you blokes (and blokesses?) do quite well is marketing and PR. Here you are on a US W-Coast sailing site . . https://www.latitude38.com/lectronic/duos-race-around-new-zealand/?utm_source=l38_campaigner&utm_campaign=Monday_January_14_2019&cmp=1&utm_medium=email
  15. Yup,it looks kinda light out there . . . not that there is anything wrong with that. And she sure is a beauty !! Good on your sailing strategy - do the zen thing until the wind fills in . .
  16. And "Delta" is also this - mostly above my pay grade . . It is used among sailboat racers . . "In general physics, delta-v is simply a change in velocity. The Greek uppercase letter delta is the standard mathematical symbol to represent change in some quantity. Depending on the situation, delta-v can be either a spatial vector (Δv) or scalar (Δv)."
  17. People who do not clean up after themselves . . have never met my wife.
  18. Sorry to hear of your ill-fortune Mr. BP. It's the same in North America, I think. You can put in all the heavy-duty gates and razor wire you want, and the skillful bad guys will just come in around it via the water. Just like your communities, the best defense is nosy neighbors. Which is yet another reason why I just love our live-aboards
  19. If I go to dynice, what will become of my Loos Guage?
  20. The date of the article is Feb. 4th, 2019 I did not know it has been published previously, as KM asserts. Hey KM, got a source for that??
  21. Why not standing rigging too? Short intro article from a gringo sailing site . . https://www.latitude38.com/lectronic/2019/02/04/#synthetic-standing-rigging-not I'll likely continue to use stainless for a while - it lasts a long time on the Sweetwater Seas Often a decade or more.
  22. Just about the best post ever . . Except where are the canal stories ?
  23. If you can manage to post daily updates on You-Tube you can get a global audience. Stay safe !!
