  1. It's always interesting to see how experienced offshore sailors perceive the benefits or lack thereof in the racing regs with respect to safety. I've attached a pdf with some thoughts from Evans Starzinger on the ORC Cat 1 racing rules from a few years ago that I found interesting. Evans Starzinger - Thoughts on Cat 1.pdf
  2. One (or two) crew wanted for the passage from Nadi, Fiji to Opua/Auckland onboard Margarita a 13m Farrier Catamaran. You will need to get yourself to Fiji by 30 October 2017. Departure will be 31 October (or as soon after as the weather suits). You can reasonably expect to be in NZ by mid November. Our usual passage time is 7 days. You will be expected to take a full part in running the boat including watch keeping, sail handling and cooking. Preference given to people with sailing and offshore experience. We are in Auckland till 29 August and can meet with you more or less anytime between now and then. Interested? Please send a 1 paragraph CV to bruce.idoine@gmail.com
  3. Hello everybody, I'm Sam, a french traveller, I m trying to leave New-Zealand by boat. I know it s not the good season but I m trying anyway cause my visa is almost done. (Any destination would be great.) I would like not to fly, not to contaminate too much. I would love to learn about sailing as well, cause I don't know yet about it. So what could I bring to you? A smile, good mood, music (I m guitarist and singer). I can cook, clean,... and I'm very motivated to learn about boats! Any help or contact you could give me would be more than welcome! I m in Auckland, waiting for my departure, so if you need company or a crew member for a smaller travel to go to Great barrier island or an other destination, it would be awesome as well! Thanks in advance for your help!! Sam
  4. Crew position offered Sydney - Auckland departing 22Feb. Margarita is a well equipped and maintained 13m Farrier catamaran that we have sailed throughout South Pacific and Australia for the past five years. This year we return to NZ and we are looking for a further experienced person (or couple) to complete our normal complement of five. You will take your full share of watch keeping, meals and other onboard chores. Passage will be to Opua and is expected to take a week. No contribution to onboard costs or expenses is expected but must have an onward flight as/if required by Australian and/or New Zealand Immigration and meet all their requirements to enter Australia and to disembark on arrival in New Zealand. Interested? Then send a brief email describing yourself and your sailing experience and any questions to; bruce.idoine@gmail.com. Bruce & Dinah
  5. Coastguard Boating Education are running an advanced sea survival course in Mechanics Bay on the 23-24 May 2015. They are low on numbers so if anyone may be needing this ticket to go offshore, contact them on 0800 40 80 90 (outside Auckland) or 09 361 4700 (within Auckland) to find out more or sign up. This course is a requirement for many offshore races and and useful to anyone else who may be going offshore at some point soon.
