Black Panther 1,584
We have some non sailing friends want to come for a joy ride around about new year. We hope to be in the vicinity of the Mercurys. Is Whitianga feasible as a place to pick up/drop off guests/ What's the limiting depth? Where's the best spot? Sundreamer??? Thanks
Steve Pope 243
just watch the bar when going in ig there is any swell, probably 1/2 tide plus would be wise.
Deep Purple 511
Totally safe any tide any wind direction, there's a headland and no bar, deep water Quite a tide flow at times but is not that bad, I've gone in and out on one engine and fouled bottom If you want a mooring call the harbour master, there are a couple of decent big boat moorings with plenty of water. You won't have any luck at the marina unless you're really lucky Alternatively anchor at the north end of the beach, a lot of visitors anchor there Some great spots to visit, call me if you're round, we'll only have the fizz boat there this year
Steve Pope 243
Hmmm I'm sure there was a bar last time I went in, which I must say was a year or 5 ago, the sands of time must have moved on. I know it's a long walk from the super market with a trolley full of groceries, easier on the return trip though.
Chewing Gum 17
We got in the marina but that was some time ago
Black Panther 1,584
Thanks guys, that's what I needed. Just looking at a whistle stop this time to pick up then drop off guests.
Battleship 100
It's a long way into Whitianga just to pick up passengers and go again. It is safe in that it's pretty much all weather but i'd be looking at Kuaotunu if the weather permitted. That said Whitianga is a great place to spend a day or two, nice cafes, bars and restaurants we usually stop there at some stage over the Christmas break.
