Bad Kitty 252
Can people running Ididum Go tell me, are you running external aerials or just the little fold up jobby? Nav station is in the saloon, foam & glass cabin top overhead. Any experience on how reception will be?
clareb 1
We haven't set our external aerial up yet and aren't getting great reception with just the fold up aerial. Texts are fine, calls seem to have a delay and drop out.
southernman 73
External aerial, absolute must especially in a seaway. Although on a cat you might just get lucky if you have a clear pathway to the sky.
Battleship 100
Have an external antennae on ours, worth ever penny, connects first time every time, calls are reliable and downloading weather gribs is also reliable. Used in the last RNI and didn't matter how rough or which way the boat was facing.
wild violet 38
Used one for 6 weeks earlier this year with only the small aerial, urther south we went worse it worked,we were only sending texts on it and sometimes had a 20 min lag.For what they cost to run i would get a satphone next time. 1paulg 17
I was told if the iridium worked ok without an external aerial ( ours does) a Go most likely will too- can’t confirm that from personal experience yet though
idlerboat 116
external ant much better, but just received a weather forecast request txt from one with no ext ant 2 minutes ago ....
southernman 73
If I disconnect the external antenna on ours and try and use it I loose 2 bars of reception. Makes a huge difference. However I used one the other week on a cat that was installed with the internal antenna 'looking' through the front glass window and it worked ok. Probably best to try and see if you are worried about the cost, if not run with the antenna.

But for 2 bars of coverage I'll keep it. Thanks for the input y'all,
John B 106
I was advised to get the aerial B K. Been great for the last 5 months at 17 or so.and in between.
darkside 61
Any idea of the costs of making a call to a "go" I see some retailers claiming they can get better deals.
B00B00 310
With our one I think it would work without the aerial as it mostly has near full reception but the download speed seems to be much faster with the external aerial and 5 bars reception the whole time. With the time it can take to download some files you really can't have any breaks in reception over that time or it 'times' out.
