erice 732
my old? small steca 1010 (10amps) has lasted longer than the 2 x 20 watt cheap flexible panels it was matched to (when the covering plastic on a flexible solar panel starts UV peeling after a few years....it's not going to end well) the regulator has probably lasted well because it was over-rated...........always a good idea imho https://www.fruugo.co.nz/steca-pr-1010-charge-controller-pwm-12-v-24-v-10-a/p-5505319-12534635?language=en&ac=google&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpPHoBRC3ARIsALfx-_I6z4VfpQnDgbdcbRiNySVIuQQQkMLpPlfpNIekAt6oFmJVgQjFjA4aAuRREALw_wcB so popular the chinese copy, of the 30amp version, is only a tenth the price oem....bet it wouldn't last long at 25amps ... https://fazcorp.co.nz/products/solar-charge-controller-30a-pwm-1224v?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpPHoBRC3ARIsALfx-_KwMHeC2JWsczIe_E1r5ghhTuyB32I5BmBMSOkxAmrVXZPuMrcCaR8aAhJHEALw_wcB https://www.fishpond.co.nz/Homeware/Steca-30a-12v24v-Pwm-Solar-Charge-Controller-With-Lcd-Display-For-Caravans/5060297343162?utm_source=googleps&utm_medium=ps&utm_campaign=NZ&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpPHoBRC3ARIsALfx-_IRBXHgIENvTFiwfgdvtzmjqtLTvtTeYnTK--9vaUGMpSImV4qPQt8aAuLYEALw_wcB
wheels 543
Yep definitely go for something better. That unit is NOT MPPT, just a simple PWM. Well worth getting an MPPT reg and you don't have to spend too much more to step up.https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/caravans-motorhomes/parts-accessories/solar-panels-accessories/listing-2209199955.htm?rsqid=9edbad5c2766471a9f2941e86bc6ecd1-002However, you do get what you pay for. They get better the more you spend. This one is German made.https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/caravans-motorhomes/parts-accessories/solar-panels-accessories/listing-2213890562.htm?rsqid=9edbad5c2766471a9f2941e86bc6ecd1-002
waikiore 397
Lustys have a nice Victron MPPT controller that works amazingly well for me.
splat 55
Really important whatever brand/model you buy that the input/output terminals in the regulator are suitably sized to handle the right gauge wire for the selected panel output current and lenght of wire runs. vic008 17
Splat, am looking at the Epever 10amp (90w panel),do you know these terminal sizes? Thanks
Zozza 291
Genasun - order from States. Great customer service, excellent solar controllers.
vic008 17
Havent looked at US for ages. Usually goods $10, freight $100 ! So to hell with them, esp when China often do free freight, tho in this case one was on TM
splat 55
In my experience the epever tracer 10 is a great unit and yes the terminals are adequately sized-unusually they also perform within specification!Reason I caution is I have seen a number of regulators lately where there has either been arcing at the terminal points through poor connection causing the area around the terminal to melt...think about it:( Alternatively, high resistance through incorrect gauge wire leading to visible deformation around terminal points. vic008 17
Yes that Genasun looks the best( about $150 out of Austr) but sort of obligated to go with the TM epover, darn.
Winter 42
I have an epever and I like it. Performs pretty good. and has a good remote display or pc connection - see my other thread
