Yanmar Start Switch

Recommended Posts

Yanmar 3gm. Press start button- nothing happens until, after random presses, I get a

connection. I seem to remember reading about this a few years ago, but I have lost the reference.

Something to do with replacing a small gauge wire from the start button to the solenoid?

Anyone enlighten me with a fix please?

Emergency, screw driver short large terminals on solenoid. If that doesn't work faulty solenoid. Also check all junctions bac to ignition key switch, unplug replug several times, undo and clean red wire to ignition key switch terminal. Same with start button. Check engine ground.
When you have time run bigger tinned cable or install relay.
Plenty on youtube.
Yanmar start circuit wire and wiring sucks.

I have a Yanmar j series and there is a small gauge wire from the start switch to a relay. The start switch energises the relay which activates the starter solenoid etc. The relay is situated on the engine. It works well and is a way of getting around a voltage drop on longer runs of light gauge wiring.

That's very kind of you, but I think it will do me good to fix the problem.

I've improved the connections and the problem has gone away for the

moment. If it comes back , I'll take the above advice and fit an extra relay.

Thanks all your your  help.

cheers
