alibaba 76
Yanmar 3gm. Press start button- nothing happens until, after random presses, I get a connection. I seem to remember reading about this a few years ago, but I have lost the reference. Something to do with replacing a small gauge wire from the start button to the solenoid? Anyone enlighten me with a fix please? alibaba
Island Time 1,230
Pull the small wire off the solenoid. Use a temp wire to connect that terminal to the batt + , and the starter should go. If not, faulty solenoid, if yes, faulty start switch or wiring.
vesper1 3
I have a Yanmar j series and there is a small gauge wire from the start switch to a relay. The start switch energises the relay which activates the starter solenoid etc. The relay is situated on the engine. It works well and is a way of getting around a voltage drop on longer runs of light gauge wiring.
Winter 42
I have a spare (used) start button and key switch for a Yanmar 3GM if you want it
alibaba 76
That's very kind of you, but I think it will do me good to fix the problem. I've improved the connections and the problem has gone away for the moment. If it comes back , I'll take the above advice and fit an extra relay. Thanks all your your help. cheers
