Fogg 427
When testing an engine by running at full speed for 5 mins and measuring the temp of the exhaust system, can someone remind me exactly where you’re supposed to point the temperature thingy? And what is the right temp range to be in?
Island Time 1,235
That depends where you measure. Outboard of the water injection point should be warm, not hot. Where water comes out exhaust should be under 50deg, never hot enough to steam. Test must be done at full load, otherwise pointless. Also worth checking temp at thermostat housing, and each end of the heat exchanger.
whitepointer 34
good idea to regularly check the raw water inlet fitting on the exhaust mixer, I had mine off recently, because of a bit of steam coming from exhaust, mine was half blocked with corrosion,, now water coming from exhaust is tepid,
Island Time 1,235
Tepid is good!
