Schooner or yawl/ketch

Recommended Posts

Moored out in the bay today was interesting yacht.

Two masted with the aft mast the same height as the foremast and the aft mast was hard to determine if it was fore or after of the rudder stock ( ketch/ yawl)

A schooner has a taller aft mast and a ketch/yawl gas a smaller mast.

But these were, to the eye, the same hieght.

 What would you call it.

Not necessarily.  A barque has 3 masts,  at least, and is square rigged on the two forward masts,  for and aft rigged on the aft mast. Schooners are fore and aft rigged on all masts....

No a white yacht with a low cabin about 50-60'. That black one with flames I've seen before. It has heavily raked masts
