Race Report. Shimmer. Best Ssanz ever for Shimmer (not hard as this is our first season) perhaps the opposite experience to Deep Purple we are  racing my family caravan a 1980 timber Townson 34.

Was out on the water yesterday and saw Deep Purple racing in a bit of breeze. What a little rocket ship. So far ahead of the rest of the fleet they may as well have been in a seperate division.

Race report - Deep Purple Tough day at the office. North easterly of 25/35 knots, extremely rough and first mark 25 miles to windward was always going to be tough for a 25' 600kg traileryacht in

With a lone entry in Baltic 1 so far! Was hoping for a bit more life there as I'm planning to be in it next year.

There are a heap of cheap older boats people could get in to to start racing there, have those interested just moved on to bigger things?

Is there a typo in the Notice of Race?

Lewmar Doyle Sails Short Course: Start passing Rangitoto Island (starboard), Shearers Rock Buoy (starboard), Haystack (Orapapa) Island, Motuihe Island (starboard), Browns Island (port), Motukorea Buoy (starboard) to the finish (approx. 39nm)

Since it does not state which side to leave the Haystack, we can effectively ignore this mark of the course! 😉

Some of the buoys we race around are unlit.  One has been destroyed.

Sailing Instructions will be out shortly and they will correct a couple of things.

NOR Rule 1.7. If there is a conflict between this document and the Sailing Instructions then the Sailing Instructions will take precedence.

Due to the changing times we are living in with Covid we have deliberately left publishing the Sailing Instructions as late as possible as things can change.

Another one is the start won’t be in the Waitamata Harbour, but in the usual place in the vicinity of Northern Leading.

Thanks for that.   In previous years there was only one combined NOR/SI.

Looking forward to the SI's so we can find out where the start and finish lines are, what the starting order is, what colour flag we need to buy, and radio sched details, and what the divisions are.

Regarding Shearer Rock buoy, old charts used to show a round buoy, plus an eastern cardinal mark in the same area.

On the latest chart, the round buoy has gone, leaving just the East cardinal mark.

Cardinal mark is the rounding mark at Shearer Rock

only 3 starts

0900 all divisions sailing Baltic course

0910 all divisions sailing PIC course

0920 all divisions sailing Doyle’s course

start line will be at Northern Leading

finish line will be at Resolution Racing Buoy

position reporting will be done by text

plus lots more so a good read of the Sailing Instructions, plus attendance at the briefing will be a must.

126 entries so far, don’t miss out.
