Its so difficult to find a moorijg for our 42ft boat, currently in a marina paying way to much, and need to bring her down to auckland but can't find a suitable mooring, due to our size.

Any ideas or know of any mooring to rent

I strongly advise you to check your insurance policy before going on to a mooring. My nephew has just purchased a 26ft and as long as it goes on to piles or marina he will be covered. He has been told insurance voided if he gets mooring.Marine insurance?? from memory.

Ive got a mooring in the upper harbour rated for a 5 ton boat so probably a bit small for you but I lent it to a friend on a 39ft steel boat and it was fine. If you get stuck youre welcome to consider an upgrade to more weight to keep the HM happy.

It must vary between Insurance companies - I have my boat on a mooring now and it was no different in premium or policy over being in the Marina which I verified before putting it on one

It does so it does pay to ask yours about moorings.

Try ringing the local mooring contractors, they often know of empty moorings and those for sale. If they identify an empty grab a mooring number of you can then ring the councils mooring dude and ask him about it, he maybe able to aim at the owner who may sell or rent. 09 - 3620395 a dude called Bruce should answer. He sounds like he's fresh out of the back country and real good on a Banjo ;) but he knows the game very very well and will help you. If he plays up or gets cocky use the phrase "Oui, La La, do I need to ring people to sort you out?". Don't do that on speaker phone as the chances are high he will launch into a tirade about my ancestors :)

The Akl Harbourmasters office works very hard not to be 'council' and does a good job at that. They want exactly the same as we do, a tidy harbour with minimal drama for all.
