John B, is the Rainbird you mention the one that went to Greece in the early 1970's, it was owned by a Kiwi (his name eludes me) he had a printing business in Auckland, It got a bit munted after a boozy night out in Mikonos, her lines chafed through and she drifted out of the harbour with the said Kiwi sound asleep, he woke up when she went aground and punched a hole in her side.

The man you are talking about (Rainbird) was Colin Forbes not really a Kiwi, an Aussie import. But a character. Later had a bar on Kawai Hawaii. Squadron Easter Rally is Forbes idea.

Thanks Fossil, thats the man, was a real hard case, always wanted female crew, his motto was no screw no crew, never seemed to go short. I crewed an overnight race with him and one of said females on Rainbird against yachts from the royal greek yacht squadron, he wouldn't relinquish the tiller and kept nodding off, can't remember where we ended up in the fleet but it wasn't flash. The Greeks had paid his freight to go and race there. He was a bit too rough for them, they would disappear when they saw him coming.
