That's the topsides then.

I went to kawau , caught 3 kingfish trolling and spoke to Matt on our marina pier on monday when we came back. ( he was workin')

Quite impressed with the kingies , we usually catch about 10 a season trolling but this is a good start. All rats and returned.

First trip out after putting the boat in the water, left a bit late after sorting out some last minute gremlins. Did a loop from Hobsonville around Motuihe and back again. Couple of 'oh bugger" moments and there's a few things to sort but all in all, a great sail; got back tired sore and happy at 2230 : )

Hmm I feel the same way, tired, sore, and happy!

Took euphoria on the 8.5 cruise to riverhead on Saturday. Late as usual, and ploughed a few underwater roads on the way up, but met a bunch of great guys and had a good sail in each direction.

Even the family enjoyed the day out, especially the kids who don't really like leaning over.

10% of the people catch 90% of the fish

True enuff

I discovered this amazing method for catching fish. Its rule one, fish catching 101 and its what you must do if you want to catch the beggars.

I learnt it when I heard an old song about how you get your boomerang to come back.

We had a fantastic weekend , off on fri night again , straight down to the bottom end where there may have been three other boats but we didn't see em, and then off to the Classic yacht association BBQ and cruising event at Patio bay sat night.

And yesterday was just a brilliant sail back to town.

here's a fish I didn't want from last years christmas cruise.

Even a little 4 ft long mako fights like a 4 ft long fish, I tried really hard to get my lure back and send him off without jewelry and I had a plan , but he revived and a surged up and bit through the trace and took off.

Not before he bit the boat 3 times though. I thought he was slapping the hull with 'is tail but no , he wanted kauri and boat cloth.

have to add it was great going up there on the heels of 4 mulleties

they started earlier and we could see them in the distance being blown over in their over-canvased way

finally caught them as they tacked up the last few, very shallow, turns of the river

and there simply wasn't enough channel for all of us...

20151206_180956_resized.jpgTechnically 2 weekends and 10 weeknights work but finally the 830 is beginning to look a bit grown up.

Full bottom sand, interprotect and 1st coat of antifoul on the weekend. Non skid applied to decks, just cockpit and cabin top to do now. Mast base fitted. Stanchions bonded and bolted, modified Pulpit and Pushpits fitted.

Deck layout finalized and Jammers bonded in place. Winches on, instruments fitted, cockpit floor aft lockers and quarter berth portlights installed. Keel lifting blocks bonded and pinned, limiting plate studs bonded in.

Inspection port cut in side of keel trunk (well above waterline ha ha) and inside of case cleaned up including a resin pour to level case with carbon liner edge.

Dear old mum finished the last new squab and they look stunning, unfortunately the time bandits have ensured that the interior paint will have to wait till 2016 but at least we will be comfy.

Bit of a holdup with the new spreaders otherwise we would have test fitted the rig -  but all going well and with just over a week remaining we are still looking on track for a Xmas eve launching.

Resurrected a free javelin and took her for a blast with Mr Harken on staurday.

I got her from dambo a couple of weeks ago after he realized she had become a garden ornament due to lack of spare time, enthusiasm etc etc.

Rather her becoming a permanent garden ornament he very kindly gave her to me

Coat of paint and Young mr Harken and I were off for a blast to see how good the boat was and much we could break before sorting the deck gear and cotpit.

The great news is that the boat is awesome!!

Goes like a rocket and is easy to sail fast ( much easier to keep upright than a 12 or int 14).

We hit 15's downwind and planing upwind.

The good news is that the hull seems worth restoring further and she's fast and balanced. The bad news is that she still needs alot of sorting but I'll potter along with that.

Tub thumper if you're around I'd love to get hold of the kevlar sails. Does any one here know how I can get hold of him?

I'd be REALLY interested in the race history if anyone could enlighten me.

I have no idea of how she will go against other Jav's but I was blown away with her performance.

I've sailed R class's, 12 foot skiffs and recently an international 14 and she felt every bit as quick and responsive as those.

I always thought the single dangle Jav was a soft option compared to the double danglers.

How wrong was I !!
