Couldn't care if I don't hoist a sail all w/e. I had a good blast last w/e to/from Barrier in that fresh E breeze, this w/e is all about just being afloat, some swimming, fishing and socialising regardless of wind. Whilst it lasts!

That's the one AC!

I'm taking the little 'uns (Grand kids) out in the morning for an hour so - until they get bored.

Then drop them off and plough out thru the harbour traffic to somewhere exciting like........ oh, I don't know.......... Issy Bay!

I don't mind Issy really, always plenty of room and not far to Westhaven by motor if the wind fails.............

Boom tent up, beer in fridge, swim off the back end............... can't complain really!

Ahhh, the benefits of cruising out of Gulf Harbour... pop out of the entrance and you are immediately in pleasant waters with sailing and anchoring opps to your N, S, E and even W!

If my wife had kept me in the manner to which I had wished to be accustomed, I would have a yacht in each of the Hauraki Gulf marina's plus one permanently at Barrier.

Then I could choose which one to use depending on conditions.

Alas, my lovely other half does not work see things my way .............

Although I am considering shifting her (the boat, not the wife) next summer to either Gulf Harbour or one of the marinas south of Kawau. Just for the summer cruising season............

CBD currently OK and like TerryB says I think it's just afternoon storms which will clear overnight.

But at lunchtime on Queen St I heard what I thought was an explosion - turned out to be a big-ass rumble of thunder (no rain).

Yeah we got that thunder as well AC. Cuppla the female office staff went white! They sit in their office looking north over the city - it was clear skies!

The thunder and cloud was south of us.

They thought a bomb had go off -

Storms at the airport?

Titirangi fine and sunny, slight breeze... Perfect

4 hours later it rained... A LOT! Flash flooding even made it to the news back in Australia.

Power was out for 3 hours too. :(

The nice neighbour (the one without dogs) was looking forward to watching the cricket... The power was back on just in time to see the presentation for the man of the match.

Apparently lines were damaged at Riverhead by a direct strike. They said it only affected about 50 homes. I think it was a lot lot more than just 50 homes. All Friday Evening at about 10 minute intervals, the power would trip off for 15 seconds or so and then come on again. Gave up trying to watch a recorded programme. Had to restart the thing and find the point we had got to and got to watcha few minutes and then go through the entire excersise again.

Its persisting down. You guys have hexed the weekend!

Two minutes after this post we had a downpour of biblical proportions at work in South Auckland, an internal gutter blocked and we flooded. I found myself running along a factory roof in a thunderstorm with lightning, what could go wrong with that.

Anyway, it prevented major damage, and the weekend turned out one of the best we've had, so I take back the 'you hexed it' comment.

I even accomplished a season goal I have , to anchor somewhere new ( despite a few decades cruising the gulf.)

What a fantastic weekend it was, a long overdue dose of decent summer cruising weather. Didn't mind the lack of wind (it will be back again soon enough), it meant we had a great time lazing around the Kawau area swimming, fishing, diving, BBQ-ing and chilling - just enjoying warm weather and blue skies for a change. :D

The Squadron guys were probably wishing for a bit more wind, even TVS appeared to be stationary as we motored past them about 10pm Fri night whilst they inched towards the finish line off Bon Accord. But the post-race partying obviously made up for any dull racing, the music was coming from Lidgard Bay til 5am!
