If I am Guessing heres a simple Breakdown of hull Cost

Labour mininmum based on Ginges 12 Builds and my own 60hrs minimum(80/hr)4.8k

Material 7k

Rig Mast 1.6k mast

Boom 1k

Sail 2k

Deck gear 1k

Foils 2k

What we up to?

No Mould recovery costs ordesign royalties in there and we are up tonearly 20K

what are we up to ?

we are up to this !!

If I am Guessing here

NZ, respectfully by your logic comparing every 12 to 14 boat to the Interdom. placing dev. 12 footer

would mean every boat is $20,000

then by comparison this one would not be expensive, they would all be roughly 'the same'

1k for a boom on a simple unarig ?

my bros contender boom cost a little over half that with shipping, retail

Try getting a warranty claim down here or a engineer to touch that when you are building a production boat

why the scaremongering?

What scaremongering you questioned my Costing data these are the facts of what it will cost the reality of building a boat like this from this medium is not cheap ,The Javelin guys have spoken to me and feel my costing is actually understated

.

again, how is it comparatively expensive when it is guessed to be the same price ??

i suggest we will have to wait for a price

this is pure speculation

there are not 7k in materials in this hull

it's true that it's getting built to a standard - all carbon, not down to a price

How

If I am Guessing

logic comparing every 12 to 14 boat to the Interdom. placing dev. 12 footer

would mean every boat is $20,000

then by comparison this one would not be expensive, they would all be roughly 'the same'

rig is being made by C tech spoke to them today about a similar Rig and you wont get any change out of 5k

If that's the case then the builder should get a quote from asia or US. similat rigs their are under half that

they may be half the price but thats no good for the NZ Marine industry, C Tech have a very high quality product and you get what you pay for. Support NZ industry. We don't want to see more companies going under.

I am based up in Asia, and we see the rigs that are available from a variety of suppliers. I'd put C-Tech right up there with the best available, and price wise, C-Tech are somewhere in the middle; they aren't as expensive as the big name brand spars, but no doubt there is a way to wriggle around and save cost here and there if you are willing to forgo some of the cool things Alex and his team can do in terms of tapering, reinforcements, saving weight etc. For things like booms and tiller extensions, simple basic tubes, then yes, it's possible to save money here and there.

Not something I would do when you are selling a semi bespoke relatively high tech boat like a Shaw 4. A bit like choosing cheap Italian deckgear vs. Harken/Ronstan - you don't really save as the client ends up changing it all out with what they boat should have come with in the first place.

The strong NZD isn't helping us so much at the moment, but I'd still easily choose C-Tech every time over some of the other options we checked out. If you saw how some other rigs are set up, there is a major benefit in buying from someone who actively races big load lightweight rig boats like Alex does on the skiffs. By comparison, the Shaw 650 rigs are simple, but effective, stiff and light.

Shipping rigs is a total PITA - so again, if the boats are in NZ, then you are either stuck (or happily buying) from a Kiwi supplier...or you can expect freight and possibly damage (we lost a rig coming up here before already - strangely a 6m section won't fit through a 4m wide door).
