Tack ring has a hook.

From the tack down through a hollow vertical gooseneck pin,

at the base of the mast is a Harken wire cheek block (HA 309), round that,

Back up the mast about 1800mm to a second harken cheek block (HA 309).

on the end of that rope is a block (HA 308) setting up the first cascade 2:1

From the base of the mast up through that block with a second much lighter block (HA 304)on the end

setting up the second 2:1

Off that is a Harken triple block and becket at the bottom (HA 231), it has a little cam cleat built onto it,

aty the top is a harken triple (HA 228), giving 7:1

Total purchase 28:1

getting the first two cascades set to the right length is essential to get enough travel

Yes, exactly !

In a strong breeze with Carbon mainsail the harder you pull the cunno, the faster you go

Coupled with less mast rotation

Follow up question: What is keeping the sail up? Hook? Single/double halyard? What clutch?

Single, 8mm non-cover spectra halyard and Spinlock XT (XTS by today's nomenclature) here.

The halyard is sleeved for maximum clutch holding power. So far this has worked as intended.

[Follow up question: What is keeping the sail up? Hook? Single/double halyard? What clutch?

Main Halyard is 8mm Superbraid (spectra) uncovered (cover starts just above where it goes into clutch),

2:1 head shackle is Tylaska H5

Clutch is Lewmar 2910 1208 (6-8mm)

I checked the boat and the cunno purchase is actually only 14:1, it has only got 1 of the cascades on it. But it is certainly plenty of purchase.

I take that is 8 mm including the cover.

  • 2 weeks later...

2:1 head shackle is Tylaska H5

or for those running a more budget style campaign they could use a "mylaska" available at all good marine stores :)

(also known as a shackle and a sheave)
