GrahamW 8
Has anyone have any experience with these? http://www.cptautopilot.com Looking for something for a 40ft 13 ton steel yacht.
Island Time 1,232
Hi Graham, no direct experience of this model. My first thought looking at it is that it is pretty old tech. All the electrics are above deck, and therefore vulnerable. I've had a belt drive AP before, and had multiple issues. I now have an electric/hydraulic unit below deck, except for the control head. My current AP has over 25,000 miles, and the hydraulic bit approx 40,000. These guys references appear to be new installs, and short duration. What is the current steering on your vessel? ie cable on quadrant, hydraulic etc. I may be able to help you out.... PM if you want, or we can discuss here?
wheels 543
I agree with IT. It looks like a fairly old kind of design and I don't like the look of much of it. I have never heard of it. Is there a particular reason why you are looking at this one??
too_tall 15
I have sailed on a yacht ( 40" amel ) with one of these. It was only useful in very calm conditions, and was not overly power efficient. We have a B&G onboard now, hydraulic, and its never really shown any weakness to date.
