Force11. Good start, legs on frenzy and squealer and lawless wasn't getting away from us. Call was made before the race that if it was 30 knots on the nose we would pull out early. Was 37 on our dial when we said f**k it. Gaff battern end had also shat itself so the square was a bit limp. Nice sail home at 12 knots from waiheke.

Epic race on the crusader. got a great start and lead the fleet out of the harbour. slowly got passed by rikki at waiheke beating into 25kts but then managed to hold them and even pass them again in the dark. I don't know if they had a problem or not. went round channel island in 1st with a handy lead. Fractional zero from there but then the breeze really went aft and we peeled to the A4. a few boats brought down some breeze in a squall but once we got it we were off. had to drop the A4 and jib reach through the hole in the wall at pace. set the A3 there and were laying the finish. then it went aft and we had to go to the A4 again. a massive electical storm developed and brought some puff and we jib reached for a while before going to the A5 for the last few miles to the finish.

just missed the record for the 35fters (which I hold on higher ground) and got the double line and handicap win for the race. a pretty pleasant race really. a bit lumpy to start with but it cleared up ok. full moon was a nice feature. lightning storm was seriously impressive. one of the biggest I have ever seen.

Well done Booboo and team, you had a great race.

We headed out into the outer Hauraki Gulf on Fast Lane and I decided the constant waves crashing over the crew was not fun so we reached off across Waiheke narrowly missing Voodoo Lounge near some rocks who was heading back to drop off severely sick crew at Matiatia, as we rounded the top end of Waiheke several waves broke over the back of the boat washing off across the cockpit our mainsheet person. The waves seemed to be very steep and the tops were breaking in the area off Hooks Bay but soon we rounded a point into the calmness of Man O War bay area. We had a nice warm meal and several rums before spending a peaceful night there. Our big concern was that all the boats the managed to get around Colville would have had a great ride down the coast. The reports about the torrential rain, thunderstorms and light winds eased our concern.

Our return trip to Tga the next day was under pleasant conditions with the spinnaker ride past Slipper etc. only slightly affected by the left over Easterly swell.

Well done to all the finishing boats, a great effort.

Really enjoyed the Race,

Got one of our better starts, Crusader poked us up a bit with 4 seconds to go but the pin end was the place to be.

We were catching Frenzy and Squealer for a while in the Flat water on the wind near Rangi but we couldn't point well in the rough stuff, Motuihe channel was probably the worst bit, some big gnarly waves and drop offs at times, big long bash to the Coromandel coast where the seas and wind eased. Rounded Channel just Behind La Rochelle and started wishing we had a gennaker, hung to the Mercs side through the Gap as thought it would be a bit light inshore which seemed to pay off, snuck through the gap at hole in the wall, and have Vivid memories of hoisting the kite in a torrential downpour with purple lightning providing the light needed.

After that Made good progress towards Mayor Island with only one park up for about half an hour. After Mayor Island it became fickle rising to 20 knots of wind for short bursts then dropping to 3-4 knots and wallowing in the swell. It was quite painful watching the boats behind bringing up the breeze. Sabian and La Rochelle managed to squeeze past us literally minutes before we crossed the line, exciting finish.

Was very impressed at the finish boat being on station in a big rolly swell couldn't have been comfortable.

Congradulations to the Crusader Team and Impressive effort by Lynx to take out 1st in div.b

There's some great photos there. Yes, Willow you were going well down to Rangi and I thought you were in a bit of strife at the start but as Crusader beared away you were sitting pretty, good judgement!!

Looks like you sailed a good course overall, well done.
