Richard2249 5
Some crew-orgers with longish memories might remember Ian Gibbs’ original Swuzzlebubble, a Farr centreboard Half Tonner from 1977. She never came back to NZ after the Half Ton Cup in 1979 in Europe, and nearly had her final resting place after falling off her cradle in Rhodes, Greece, before being found in 2012 by English yachtsman Peter Morton. Peter refurbished ex-NZ Quarter Tonner Anchor Challenge, and the boat that beat her here in 1980, Bullit (France). He’s done another fantastic rebuild with Swuzzlebubble, and has optimised her as an IRC boat under which the Half Ton Cup is presently raced, including quite an interesting Mark Mills-designed keel. Peter has been keen to emphasise her New Zealand origins, retaining her original name and with hull graphics reminiscent of sistership Gunboat Rangiriri (still sailing out of Rome), and has even kept her original ‘KZ’ sail number. She looks awesome, and should be a good bet for this year’s Half Ton Cup. Some photos attached, and more on the link below.

Guest Saturday Night Special
I can see the cockpit has been extended and the aft deck removed the IOR dictated the cockpit size so If I remember correctly the two Farr boats had Aft decks between the full stern and cockpit aft face
