This sounds like the ocean going version of the IPCC.Selling fear to the masses then tax them to 'fix' it thus guaranteeing ongoing funding for the employment of the fearmongers with their snouts in the various government troughs.Doubtless the oceans need cleaning up like land pollution but these "International Panels" really are a rort.......what's the next fear factor ?

That, David, is REALLY depressing! Unfortunately I believe every word...

Agreed. Read Peter Bethune account what he encountered and what racing, cruising multihulls are encountering. Untold damage to their vessels.

The latest 4 people missing when vessel suddenly disappears UK to Caribbean. Suddenly taking on water. Search has been abandon by the USCG with no trace.

I myself have witness additionally the Cruise ships non bio gradable dumping [ results ] from their daily waste. Plus the latest NZ yachting warning re the Mediterranean Fan Worm in Southern Hemisphere Waters and Auckland harbours.

The oceans are starting to get like a water skiers slalom course. It will not be long before ocean cruisers will have to have a crew member forward as a spotter because it does not show on the radar.

Additionally Auckland harbour was recently down graded from B to C and no body blinked an eye lid. Not long before it will be D.

Why. "she be OK Kiwi and other citizens attitudes", reluctance to accept and protest.

Bad luck you feel like that BP.It will be a cold day in hell when taxing the people to pay Govts./bureaucrats to fix the worlds problems works. Take a look at the UN as one glaring example !! An expensive talkfest.

Admiral- I just re read the entire article looking for one reference to taxes. Couldn't find one.

But if you are interested that was one of five, click here http://graphics.latimes.com/altered-oceans/ and you can find the other four, which also don't mention taxes. However under "solutions " the article calls for a global expansion of marine reserves and protected areas. Seems a good idea to me.

Thx BP.All good stuff. My reference to taxes of course refers to the various governments who fund these "International Panels" and associated organisations. (Like UN )A contributing factor to the insatiable appetites Goverments have for taxes. In NZ we have Income Tax Company Tax Trust Tax Acc 'levies',registration fees rates GST consent fees sales tax excise tax are some that come to mind.Probably half your income. You will get the gist?
