TimB 7
Looks like we might be heading towards another major El Nino event similar to that in 97/98 see http://www.weatherwest.com/archives/1493 Any one else seen anything suggestive .... and I don't mean Rachel Hunter's nickers either. tb

Black Panther 1,586
There was a big El Nino around '82, lots of bush fires in Aus, Cyclones in Tahiti and the Marquesas, gale force trades north of the equator. I felt we were cursed and leaving a trail of destruction in our wake.

Isn't about once every 10yrs we get a real good hit by a Cyclone like recently and about every 20 we get a Bola, Gazelle? Seeing as Gale is about, 30Kts ruffly, don't the Trades blow at Gale force anyway?
John B 106
Yeah ,but there's ex TC's and there's ex TC's. What year was it we were all persecuted by those two in close succession? 96 ? Fergus and Drena. A lot of boaties pissed off at metservice over that state of affairs , you got your weather warning off 1ZB and bush telegraph because metservice's mandate at the time was to only forecast a certain number of days ahead and it was short ..2 ? IIRC. They knew they were coming but withheld reporting them because they were obliged to by their protocols. Meanwhile , TV and radio news was happily telling farmers and campers to batten down. How times have changed , for the better.
