With 40 percent of crew needing to do Sea Survival course wondering if any consideration given to giving discounted rate for entrants in Central Triangle? Anyone approached organisers?

Suggest a direct approach by your self.

Excellent

The RPNYC organising team are looking at facilitating berthage of larger boats in Napier, and bundling this with berhtage packages for while the boats might be in Wellington for the lead up to and during the Port Nic Regatta, and for the time between the Port Nic Regatta and the start of the Central Triangle, and following the completion of the Central Triangle before the return delivery trips.

Details on this are bveing worked through and we hope to announce something concrete about this soon.

Central Triangle Entry Update:

From: http://www.rpnyc.org.nz/club/regattas/c ... ce/entries

Entry number 4, Matt Kerr /Glenn Robertson's Ross 40 Satellite Spy has entered.

Recently the organisers have realised some people were not clear about some key aspects of the time commitment for (a) the race as a whole, and (B) crew members competing.

So, to reiterate:

1. The race starts one weekend with the start of the Wellington to Akaroa leg. Leg two is Akaroa - Napier, and it is expected that the third leg, Napier back to Wellington will be completed the following weekend. So the full event should be about 10 days - two consecutive weekends and the week in between.

This is to make it as easy as possible from a time off work perspective.

2. To allow as many people to participate as possible as crew, boats are NOT required to have the same crew throughout the race. You can swap as many crew members in at out between each leg as you like. So if you have crew who can do leg one to Akaroa but can't get the full week off work, you can get other crew to fly/drive to Akaroa and join the boat there, and have the crew members who did leg but can't commit to the full race jump off and head home.

This is designed to make it as easy as possible to get boats to be able to get crew so that they can do the race.

If there are any questions ask them here. We will try and provide helpful answers.

There are 15 people doing the Advanced Sea Survival course at the Wellington Ocean Sports Centre, 9 of which said they are doing the course because they are intending to crew in the Central Triangle. The course attendees alone are likely to result in at least three further entries by my count.

I have spoken the to the course instructor, and if there is sufficient demand for further courses expressed by entrants in the Central Triangle there should be no problem scheduling further course(s) as needed. There needs to be 12 people willing to book to make it happen.

Hello Central Trianglers

Just a quick update on the race. If you haven't entered, please lodge your entry at http://www.rpnyc.org.nz/club/regattas/crewed-central-triangle-race/entries - remember, you don't need to pay until later :-). Four great boats have entered and more to come!

For those wanting to arrange accommodation in Akaroa, there are two great recommended multi unit properties. Please speak to Jude at Tresori Resort: http://www.tresori.co.nz; and Glen at Akaroa Village: http://www.akaroavillageinn.co.nz/waterfront.html. Currently both have accommodation available but it will fill up fast with the summer season on its way.

Will find out about options at Napier and will post information separately.

Thanks for the update - sad to say that the new YD37 boat won't be making the start line. We were hoping to get things ready in time, but with a launch date of March 2, making the start line is unrealistic. So a bummer for the ex-Django crew, would have been great to stretch the new boat's legs on this very cool race, but c'est la vie. And our best wishes to all competitors, GO HARD!!

Hi Central Trianglers

Good idea to book accommodation at Akaroa and Napier as bookings may get tight soon given it is wedding season in Feb and March. A couple of suggestions, there are plenty more fabulous options:

Akaroa - Great place to stay is: http://www.tresori.co.nz. 50m from the yacht club. Warm, welcoming and fantastic. Feb and March get pretty busy in Akaroa so good to book ahead.

For Napier, the Bluewater hotel is looking lovely and again, very welcoming to receive yachties. http://www.bluewaterhotel.co.nz.

Wellington Ocean Sports is running a Coastal Medic course this weekend. This is a great opportunity to get more of your crew up to speed before the Central Triangle. THIS COURSE IS AT RISK OF BEING CANCELLED UNLESS WE GET TWO MORE REGISTRATIONS. If you are interested, please call Matt Wood on 939-6702 today.

The course offers participants the qualifications of Coastguard Boating Education Service Marine Medic (Coastal), NZQA units 6400, 6401, 6402 and Maritime New Zealand commercial first aid. • Medical Emergencies
  • Evacuation and Medical Assistance
  • Casualty Resuscitation – including an introduction to Defibrillation
  • Managing Shock
  • Treating Internal & External Bleeding
