RYC Spring Regatta – Gold Cup Passage Series – Race 1

Saturday 20th September

We’ve been sending boats around Waiheke to start the season for over 40 years. The Spring Regatta is a great shake out race after a winter off and draws large boat numbers. In recent years the first race in the RAYC Gold Cup Series is run as part of the Spring Regatta.

Spring Regatta Notice of Race & Entry Form can be found here:

http://richmondyc.org.nz/racing/info/spring-regatta/

The Notice of Race and Online Entry for the Gold Cup Passage Series are available online at http://www.goldcup.co.nz

Come on out and get in some crew practice for the Coastal or Wednesday Nights.

A great day for a sail. We hit over 18k at Gannet, and with #3 and a reef had a solid beat home.

A special well done mention to the skippers at the start line who protected boats as the main culprit carried on barging in.

I heard the barging was a shocker; no protest??

Bit on aboard faster coyote. Fast downwind. Not so upwind. Top speed on gps 17.8. On a small boat punching into the oncoming swell downwind was interesting.

He says "interesting" i say exhilarating, scary, wet, frightening, exciting and borderline insane.

Excitement factor of 34.534 can be applied to that 17.8kts.... Flying basically... Never seen spinnakers that are ahead get bigger that quick...

In one word AWESOME!!!!
