KZ007 5
After a few jars down the local pub the other evening, my mates and myself got into an interesting discussion about what is the most legendary kiwi race boat of all time. We all had different ideas so we set about making our "Top 10 Legends List". Our selection criteria was quite wide open, the boats had to be raced under the New Zealand flag internationally or raced extensively in local waters. Race results are a major factor in our selection, but not essentual, we selected Starlight Express in our Top 10 just because we think she is a dam cool boat, a legend on the Hauraki Gulf. We've left out some big name boats, so if anyone out there wants to challenge our list of legends, bring it on!1. Steinlager 22. NZL 323. Lion4. KZ75. Propaganda6. KZ17. New Zealand Endeavour8. Alfa Romeo II9. Split Enz10. Starlight Express

Clipper 343
I'd be replacing Lion with Ceramco. As a kid, was always super keen on steinlager 1 (60' tri) as well. Never a fan of KZ1, for both the way we 'challenged' and the fact she got her arse handed to her. I don't even know which boat alfa romeo 11 is? is that the big 100' sister to wild oats? What about the spencer legend, name escapes me right now, she came back for coastal a couple of years ago?

Battleship 100
Some cool machines. Loved Ceramco, not so much Lion or KZ1. Would have to add Ranger and Rainbow to the list. Also Yamaha one of the first Whitbread 60's skippered by Ross field gave the big boys a real fright.

Guest Ketchup
What a interesting topic. I have never rated boats like this. I prefer to rate sailors or designs. Many great " one design" or " one off" boats have failed due to poor sailors and/or poor campaigns. Take KZ7, Outward bound, most AC, Whitbread, ton boats have not won Much for NZ. Questiot is... Were they great boats or badly sailed?. Are all the aforementioned boats just average boats that were sailed really well?... or maybe sailed against "lesser" opposition"?.... so controversial! If you were rating great designs that made a difference for NZ on the world stage then... Farr 727 Most farr designs Ceramco Wave rider amend many Davidson designs All Ross designs Hollands big SY's Whitings ton designs... all? Given Cats GBE,'s ? Many Elliot designs Some Blackwell white designs paper tiger (Australasian) p Class.... developed many great sailors Warwick cruising designs H28? To name a few
