wheels 544
There must surely be a better way of doing this. I would assume the drum is hydraulic powered to haul the chain in, so why don't they use the same to pay it out.http://www.break.com/video/freighter-anchor-chain-gets-loose-2982605
Kevin McCready 83
I'm guessing that the weight of the chain going down is enough to help it down. The problem is the brake. On systems I've seen the brake is separate.
erice 732
jeez, you wouldn't want that coming out of your paypacket
dkd 3
that's an oops and imagine the paperwork, event reports etc etc etc Once the brake band started burning nothing was going to stop it. We always drive the cable (chain) out for that very reason and did not think anyone still allowed the cable to "free run" Interesting is it snapped the BitterEnd and all ended up on the ocean floor, suddenly ship is out of class ..... just became bigger oops moment. Thinking will show our deck crew ........ great training vid of what not to do.
wheels 544
Arh so there was a Bitter end then huh? I wondered. I wasn't sure if it would have been connected, but was waiting for something really nasty to happen when the yellow paint shot past. Watching everyone scarper, likely they thought exactly the same.
