2016 Marsden Cove Route 66 - Fri 4 March

Recommended Posts

The Marsden Cove Route 66 is Richmond Yacht Club’s “short” coastal race – 66nm from Auckland to Marsden Cove, Whangarei. Organised in association with Onerahi YC, the race includes open keeler, multihull and singlehanded divisions. With a 9AM start you’ll finish Friday evening with time to join in the party at Marsden Cove Marina. It is a great introduction to coastal racing for new boats as the safety requirements are Cat 4+ and the fleet stays within the barrier islands.

The singlehanded division of the Route 66 is the "Route 1" and is the longest singlehanded coastal race in NZ. We expect over 20 boats on the line this year!

By the looks of the entry list here http://richmondyc.org.nz/racing/info/route66-coastal-race/ Josh is doing it single handed. Still trying to get my Ducks in a row.

As far as berthage at the cove goes do we need to contact the marina ourselves or is it all taken care of.

Noneed to worry about the marina. All sorted thanks to Richmond Yacht Club!

Last year there was a few ribs from Marsden Cove that would escort you through the channel as you arrive! Helpfull as there are sand banks all around...

Awesome set up!!!!

I've entered the soloiq series, so will continue to race against the same boats. You will find I won't be the only singlehanded keelboat with more than one hull (and no keel). I think perhaps the division should just be called 'singlehanded'

ah - makes sense now. Hence your request for company for the trip back.

Did I request company? I think that was for kawau night race return journey. Got a crew lined up for trip home from marsden thankful. Bloody long return journey by yourself on a GBE!
