Island Time 1,211
Coutts got a Gold in the Finn, how was that a disappointment?
ScottiE 174
It'll be close - likely better than London but somewhere in the middle of the heydays. Overall that would be marked as successful - it's reversed the "trend" in Olympic results. That coupled with evidence of club membership numbers increasing slightly might mean the sport is growing slightly here . . . I'm sure the naysayers will jump in here so leaving the door wide open with pop corn and belies at the ready!
Chewing Gum 17
Island Time , you misread me - I said "apart from" Coutts was definitely a standout as evidenced by his subsequent career.
ScottiE 174
He did finish 8 in '92 wit daubney and Fleurey - I recall that being dissapointing
Chewing Gum 17
Thanks for the summary ScottiE, I was hoping someone might know.
ScottiE 174
Go here - you can click on each regatta for the full record, sailors, final position, sailor profile etc. it's very very good. http://www.olympic.org.nz/sports/sailing/
ex Elly 197
Very tight in the W470, with 4 boats chasing 2 medals. Only 4 points separate them. Team Jolly needs to have another blinder! 470 Women - Medal Race Top 101. Hannah Mills/Saskia Clark (GBR) - 28 pts2. Jo Aleh/Polly Powrie (NZL) - 48 pts3. Annie Haegar/Briana Provancha (USA) - 49 pts4. Camille Lecointre/Helene Defrance - 50 pts5. Ai Kondo Yoshida/Miho Yoshioka (JPN) - 52 pts6. Afrodite Zegers/Anneloes van Veen (NED) - 59 pts7. Tina Mrak/Veronika Macarol (SLO) - 65 pts8. Fernanda Oliveira/Ana Barbachan (BRA) - 68 pts9. Lara Vadlau/Jola Ogar (AUT) - 74 pts10. Agnieszka Skrzypulec/Irmina Gliszczynska (POL) - 96 pts
ScottiE 174
Awesome work aleh and powrie Now ranks as our 3rd best Olympic regatta with a chance of another medal still. Not bad for a sport supposedly dying!
ScottiE 174
Maloney and Mech take silver to make this our second best showing at the Olympics equalling Barcalona '92. Gotta be happy with that especially when you consider the shoddy umpiring A&P had to endure.
ballystick 72
Pretty happy in Tauranga, with club members taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. That doesn't happen very often or at all. How many other clubs in the world have done better?
ScottiE 174
The M&M dynamic duo are the fx team. Sounds like they missed the gold by a boat length in the medal race!
SloopJohnB 323
Bloody well done...............and without a white elephant on Taka beach.
ScottiE 174
I was going to make a tongue in cheek comment about that earlier - but I like the service I recieve from Chains Rope and Anchors too much to "pull that particular chain"!
Island Time 1,211
Great effort! Particularly the women's 470, hard to get back up after a knock like that. Respect.
Deep Purple 511
Why does Stuff continually add the words "Well Funded" when reporting on the NZ Olympic sailing team. All the other major sporting codes are well funded as well. The lefties don't like the "rich pricks in boats" do they? Todays line...."The real drama for New Zealand came in the women's races as the well-funded team went on a medal hunt." http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/olympics/83249081/rio-olympics-2016-nz-sailors-peter-burling-blair-tuke-claim-gold-in-49er-class http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/olympics/83336730/rio-olympics-2016-new-zealand-sailors-enjoy-triple-medal-day http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/olympics/83248800/new-zealand-laser-sailor-sam-meech-wins-bronze-at-rio-olympics I googled "well funded" on Stuffs site and only these 3 stories came up. madyottie 82
Looks like we're pretty good at messing about in boats, and anything to do with Shots! 4 sailing medals and 3 kayak medals, not bad at all. Plus a shooter and a couple of shotputters.
Chewing Gum 17
Awesome effort from the sailors and so close to golds for the women. If you discount the disqualifications Aleh and Powrie far outperformed the opposition.
SthnJeff 18
We need to invent a new sport that involves us going somewhere in a boat throwing a big rock at something

SthnJeff 18
Bloody well done...............and without a white elephant on Taka beach. Imagine how many we could have won if they had the Taka beach complex ????????????????
