ScottiE 174
Bugger! Just under 800nm. Saved his boom so hopefully he can jury rig it to sail to the finish.
MarkMT 68
Oh that's a shame.
Island Time 1,294
Bugger, he's had an abnormally tough race in an already tough event I reckon. Hope he can sort a jury rig and get over the finish line, be a shame to have to withdraw when he's so close.
ScottiE 174
Finally - Colman is pointing in the right direction again! He sailed backwards in this race more than the rest of the fleet combined I reckon!
Battgirl 23
Yay! I hope he can sail to the finish. He so deserves it
ScottiE 174
Sounds like Coleman has been busting arse on his jury rig. Must be hard work on your own. Booboo will be able to tell us about how hard it is to fashion 2up. Am I allowed to make any comments about showing the French the kiwi "never surrender" attitude!?!
Battleship 100
From Facebook " We just got a call from a very happy skipper. Even though his computer is down at the moment and he can't send pictures or emails (working on it later) the boom is up with a sail on it. Conrad will put up the jib during the night. Long long day but determination and patience pays off and he's got a "mast"!!"
Island Time 1,294
Great news! I hope it hangs together for him.

ScottiE 174
yeh but VMG is -1.3kts - hopefully just testing! Still 716.5/3.6 - sheeesh!
ScottiE 174
this image from the Vendee Globe official website (thanks!) A very happy looking man - and I see he's now on a making board!
raz88 97
There was also mention on Facebook that he is still working on rigging a jib to go with the jury rigged main, so may be able to increase sail area and hopefully speed too.
ScottiE 174
just occured to me looking at that pic - flexible solar panels - the cells look quite a bit bigger than what you see on the typical fexible panels we see out of China. Anyone know what brand they are?
Farrari 4
Conrad is sponsored by Oceanvolt and also has/had solar cells sewn into his mainsail. I'd suspect the cabin top solar panels are custom made by the look of the angles but it's hard to tell from that picture. http://oceanvolt.com/conrad-colman-vendee-globe-2016
