RWC 2
still in front and slightly to leeward of Vestas I believe. Vestas basically following same track but still closing I suspect. Akzo to windward of the Vestas track DF rotating forward around them in better breeze.
waikiore 438
Any bets on when they will arrive in Auckland????
ex Elly 217
They are in New Caledonia now. Doing 10-13 knots. Have head winds and light airs ahead. So probably Tuesday.
AJ Oliver 155
pretty sure they won't arrive in 2017 (thread title alert) Seriously, I wish I could be there for it. I've been following it on YouTube and elsewhere. Been rooting for the Spanish team (w. Tuke), but they are lagging right now. It's a surprise to me how much heel they sail those boats with . . waikiore 438
2pm -3pm maybe Tuesday .....
muzled 140
Akzo about 200 miles from the cape so they'll cut that out in 12hrs ish? Looks like light winds until about midday tomorrow though, be nice if they came in early evening, be cool to watch them come in around north head.
muzled 140
Did you book an extra couple of hours flying KM? The inconsiderate buggers didn't come around the cape quite as quick as they'd hoped.
eruptn 98
Tracker now live as they crawl down the coast; https://www.volvooceanrace.com/en/tracker.html If TTTOP cross clear ahead of AN and Scallywag in the next hour or so they may have this leg .... first to the building NE will be hard to catch ..... PeteG 13
Should get better breeze further down. We are at southern tip of Barrier now and getting an easterly through the Colville Channel around 12-15 knots.
ex Elly 217
First 2 boats neck and neck They are just off Whangaroa now. Slow progress doing 4 kn with 2 kn wind.
muzled 140
Turn the tide currently going over 2 knots faster, have gone from 7.5 miles behind this morning to 3.2 now, seem to be gaining all the time. Might run out of racetrack though. Will be an exciting finish!
philstar 61
they look parked next to the cavallis. can't see anything happening until early am
ScottiE 174
Yup - meanwhile Brunnel is on a real stomp - pulling back a full 10nm every hour for last 3-4 hours. The look like they'll carry breeze for a good few hours yet. They may not catch up but it'll be close. Anyones leg at this point.
Fish 0
First to the breeze will win this whole leg, at the moment there is a real chance any of the front five (i.e. the whole fleet accept Brunel) could have a crack at burgling the leg. Looking at the forecasts (which are only forecasts) I reckon first to Cape Brett will win the leg... All we need now is for someone with a light plane to go for a pre-sunset fly and suss where the breeze is and who is closest to it, KMM?
ScottiE 174
(think he's up there now)
Fish 0
5.3 miles between the five boats. Looks like DF & M have good breeze, 10 knts compared to 6 for the front 3, boat speed is up...
AJ Oliver 155
Viva Espana !!
Fish 0
I'm not happy with Brunel. Having told my kids that some boats are racing around the world and they will sail past our place this evening on their way into Auckland, my 4 year old daughter wanted to know if Peter Burling was on one of the boats. Having watched all the America's Cup races with me, Peter Burling is her hero, along with the 'Kiwis' on the 'Kiwi boat'. She even went to the parade in the pissing rain with her Grandad and didn't even complain about getting soaked through. Anyway, you would not believe how many questions a 4 year old can come up with as to why Peter Burling is coming last... why he didn't sail as fast as the other boats, why he wasn't lucky getting the wind shifts, why the navigator wasn't as clever, why the other boats might have worked harder to trim their sails, why the other boats don't have bigger sails why sometimes you don't win all the time why sometimes even if you try your hardest you still don't win why sometimes even the best sailors get last (like Daddy does sometimes...) why you don't have to win all the time why its ok to get last if you tried your hardest and did your best, and finally why you have to go to bed when it is already past your bed time why... why... why...
Addem 118
They are in the breeze now and it’s a procession to the finish. At 20 knots.
