Sale of Marina Land Stopped (Apparently)

Apologies in advance for the herald link, they only repeat a few paragraphs word for word.

Apparently Auckland Council are taking too much heat on the sale of marina land, so are going to kick the can down the road, and come up with a better plan to bury everything in a strategic plan. This should, with luck, bore the sh*t out of anyone that was interested, so they can have another go at some dodgy dealings down the track.

Good to know that our elected representatives at Council had no idea what Punuku were up to, until the concerted efforts of those leading the various marina users associations got stuck in. They deserve a cold beer.

Democracy at Auckland Council is a shambles.

This is the very reason that Panuku was set up, so that the councillors could distance themselves from "that naughty Panuku" who are the council arm charged with development and flogging off publicly owned assets.

For those that are confused Westhaven is one of the assets that has been slid under Panuku as well.

"As a FYI, a couple of the very same people who pestered Helen to put the covenant over Westhaven in the first place have been the battlers in the current shite fight. Good on them for being so tenacious".

There should be a national or regional award/title or maybe free marina berths and diesel or rum for a year bestowed on those who fight the good fight and keep these bastards honest with no recognition or reward to themselves.

A few names spring to mind and I wont name them here but the public of this city owe them a huge debt of gratitude for their tireless and selfless efforts over many years and many issues.

Council officers need a ready reminder that they are public servants not overlords of their own private personal fiefdoms.

Mayor Phil Goff said he was not comfortable with a report from officers that recommended completing the strategic approach by December and possibly excluding the public.

Agreed. Its one thing to throw shite from the sidelines, but its a big commitment to jump into the cesspit and wrestle. A big thanks needs to go to them.

Knot Me  has a handle on it as are an ever growing groundswell of yacht club members and particularly Marina Users Association members.

The dedicated work of a few particularly through the Westhaven Marina Users Association, is finding some credible targets and with future stronger battles to fight, need support through new members and a strong mandate from as many marina users as possible, not just berth holders or club members, but the waka paddlers, fishing fraternity, ramp users, dog walkers, you name it.

Here is a link to last Tuesdays Council meeting where they spent 1.5 - 2 hours discussing marina strategies.

Hah that made me larf

Talk about Yes Minister.

In 2004 when the deal was done to secure Westhaven back into perpetual public ownership we pushed for a over arching local body entity to deliver a strategy for the whole of the waterfront .

Crikey those council fullas are still trying to differentiate between strategic and strategy.

Now that’s what I pay my rates for.

Community votes overwhelmingly against marina sale, as council takes new tack

A proposal to sell off an Auckland marina has been "overwhelmingly rejected" by its community, as the council moves to review its policy on marina sales.

Ninety per cent of respondents to Panuku's public consultation on the future of Hobsonville Marina at West Harbour said they do not want to see parts of the marina sold for development.

Only five per cent supported the proposal, which could include 250 high-rise apartments up to 21 metres high on the waterfront.

Panuku are as cunning as a pack of ship yard rats.

They will take this interval in their back door privatisation of public assets to regroup and emerge as slippery as ever.

No point sitting on your tuffets and having a moan folks take the time to lift a finger or two in effort and fire off a email or call to your local councillor , board member and MP.

Rattle their cages and if you bang the drum loud and hard enough you will find that they are gettable as we did with Westhaven.

Its called the democratic process.

The multi-millionare proponents of controversial Auckland marina housing plans want the council to push ahead and make money from selling the land.

On Tuesday, property and development manager for Herbert's Empire Capital, David Boersen, told Auckland councillors "the people of Auckland need and expect more from these spaces".

"These spaces need investments to deliver this development and public transport outcomes to enable place making and also to facilitate the ongoing growth of Auckland," he said.

Simon Herbert bought the 570 berth Pine Harbour Marina for $22 million, 3 years ago.
He also owns Bayswater, Hobsonville and Gulf Harbour, and now wants to put 200 apartments at each site!

Where he should be is in jail, along with those responsible for allowing an anti competitive monopoly to develop with ownership of the majority of Auckland and environs marinas being owned by one pr#ck.

Just absolutely unbelievable this was allowed to happen.  LOCK HIM UP.

Herbert does not own Gulf Harbour.

Covington Group Mr Speedy.

These marina owners purchased not primarilay for the berth rental return as this just sees off the cost of debt with a little left over.

The jewel is the land and as Pine Harbour is consented without the need to deal with Panuku the next phase is to Trojan Horse Hobsonville.

Empire Capital throw out the most intensive worst case scenario and then deal back from there.

They will then wait for the cheap seat clamouring to quite before announcing something along the lines,

Panuku and Empire Capital are pleased to announce that the recent controversy over the proposed Hobsonville Marina residential development has been amicably resolved.

Empire Capital have offered to shoulder the entire costs of a 10sqm residential care facility for retired Leprechaun sailors with dementia. This world class designed 20 storey development built right to the waters edge so as to not place the public at risk will incorporate a expansive residential dementia care facility for Leprechaun sailors who have retired from nautical activities and seek to see out their days in the welcome shade of Hobsonville Mega Towers .

Panuku CEO David Rankin stated that this is a win win outcome for all involved and sees this as a ground breaking opportunity to further develop the remaining marina land in the Auckland region.
