Nostlagia - just some old photos

Recommended Posts

Here is a series of Whitbread boats from the 1986-86 race; all photographed on Auckland Harbour in January 1986.

First is Cote D'Or.  The Javelin in the foreground is a Farr Mk II from the mid 70's.  Several of this design did well - some that come to mind are Nice One, Jonathon Livingston Seagull and Worzel Gummidge.

The other boats are Atlantic Privateer, Drum, UBS Switzerland, and (of course) Lion.

I have been scanning some old negatives, some of which are in very poor condition, but may bring back some memories.  I hope you find something interesting amongst them.

I will start with the launch of Feltex Roperunner in late 1980 at Half Moon Bay. You may recognize some people, Don and Jim Lidgard, Farr, Bowler...

In the late 80's there was a boat called Roperunner sailing out of Melbourne... Any connection to this one?

Thanks Muzza for the great photos!

I sailed on Rhumbline a while ago.

Rhumbline was based in Wellington early 2000's then moved to Sydney in 2005. Not sure where she is now.

Was Ceramco rescued from the "Sheriff's Auction" we saw posted here a couple of years ago?

By the same token, what to do with the 1/2 dozen or so 12 metre or AC class hulls sitting at Hobsonville point?
