strath 4
Has anybody heard when Leg 2 is starting?
ex Elly 265
Leg 2 starting at noon today. There is a protest lodged against Blink for hitting the finish boat and not doing turns.
smithy09 50
Mr. Kite is having a stunning leg. The 50s just can't get away from them!! Looks like it was a good buy!!
ex Elly 265
The 2 smallest boats have sailed have gone west, and sailed around all the others stuck in the Taranaki hole. Great move by CU Later and Moving Violation. Hopefully all boats will reach Wellington tonight.
Ed 151
SMU has 174 miles to go and is doing 6.4 kts. They’ll be lucky to be in before it goes dark tomorrow
ex Elly 265
Looks like Motorboat and Truxton have sucked a kumara by sailing too close to Cape Palliser, and stuck in a hole! And now Krakatoa has turned around and heading back to Wellington?
Island Time 1,293
Krakatoa must have some problem.... Pretty happy I didn't go on this race, not to comfortable out there I'd think...
Fish 0
Krakatoa must have some problem.... Pretty happy I didn't go on this race, not to comfortable out there I'd think... mast issue, all safe onboard
Fish 0
High Voltage's shore crew blog is very amusing... Things not to say on a plane RNI2020In hindsight it probably wasn’t the best idea to shout down the aisle of a Bombardier Q300 plane that was about to start taxiing towards the runway “Naomi!! The propeller has fallen off!!!” The other passengers looked quite alarmed and started quickly peering their pale faces out the windows of the tiny plane to try and work out what on earth was going on. Naomi – my trusty Executive Assistant, sitting in row 7D, probably didn’t help matters when she shouted back “sh*t! Do you think we should try and get off??!!” https://astrolabesailing.com/2020/03/02/things-not-to-say-on-a-plane-rni2020/?fbclid=IwAR3rggvjQEmSISBo00nvYtW6yQGulGDRJa8muFenBki9qWrk4O0P-bpg1n0
Changed 10
In close going quiet. Relapse looking OK at th moment. Spent almost a ful day staring at Bare Island in 2014. Gave it good width the next time.
Changed 10
Relapse looking the best at the moment. Good to out a bit. Gets really patchy between Bare Island and the Cape.
chariot 244
Anyone have any idea when the results of the 3rd leg are going to be posted on the SSANZ website.
ex Elly 265
Yes they were holding back, maybe they were waiting for the prizegiving? Some of the smaller boats did well on that leg: Distraction and Moving Violation. And Wired has finally won a leg for their division, but the overall winner was Laissez-faire. ex Elly 265
Leg 4 looking quick. CU Later had an issue with their instruments, so started 3 hours late. The fast boats are round East Cape and now having a good downwind hoon. Looks like Clockwork has made an error by heading west into the wind hole, others keeping well offshore, Mr Kite maybe too far out? The slower boats struggling in lighter breeze reach to get to the cape.
chariot 244
What has happened to Motoboat today. Do they have a problem. Speed seems to be down compared to other boats around them.
ex Elly 265
Nothing too major I think. Looks like they have slowed a little after Cape Colville. Serena have rolled them,GaleForce and HigherGround gained a bit, Biggest winner appears to be Waka who must have been flying downwind, and went out very wide.
B00B00 329
Nothing happened to us on motorboat other than getting caught in some very light winds. Titanium who were just in front at colville managed to lay across the gulf in good breeze while we had only 5kts from right behind us. A 16nm lead turned into 4nm by the time the others brought the wind down to us. Serena is just much faster than us vmg running in light winds which is why they passed us quickly. Was a very frustrating day for us. Leg 3 and 4 ended the same with the boats behind bringing the breeze down to us while we could do nothing but wait.... That's sailing for ya.
Island Time 1,293
Well, some of us followed you all on the tracker, as that's the best we could do. Seemed like a mentally tough race with all the calms and holes. Well done to all boats and crews, RNI is not an easy event, NZ coast is a tough place to sail.

That doesn't half make you feel sick when you watch that happen all around you. Well done to all participants. It's a tough race.
