Anchor Warp

Recommended Posts

Either is fine. What its made of is more important - it should have some stretch. Old school is nylon. The issue with nylon 3 strand is that in extreme cyclic loading, it can melt from the inside out and fail. Braid is less susceptible for this, however, unless you intend cyclone anchoring, its not likely to be an issue. Some more modern fibres are also good - ask Knot Me.

An important question not asked yet, what is the anchor winch?
Capstan only, then either type is OK. But if you have a chain/rope combination gypsy, the make is important to know.
If you use the simple Armstrong unit, then while either is OK, as Mate says, the 8 is better on the hands.

If its a normal 88 the anchor winch is Manual, so i would always go for 14mm 3 strand laid polyester strong and it lasts . To keep you there you will require a proper anchor and a good length of short link 8mm chain first (Australian or Italian only) .
