ex Elly 146
They were sailing an H28 from Whakatane to Gisborne. Not sure what the problem was. Now anchored in Omaio Bay near Te Kaha.

erice 731
Two people had to be rescued from their yacht in the early hours of yesterday - the second time the pair needed help this week. A Coastguard spokesman said they received a distress call about 12.40am from the same vessel it had received two mayday calls from about 8pm on Sunday. There had been an issue with anchoring the vessel that night and a search and rescue mission, involving a P3 Orion aircraft from Auckland, was launched. The H28 blue yacht was later found in Ōmāio Bay after a member of the public spotted it and called a local radio station, which had been running a news report about the search. Yesterday's mayday call was to report that the anchor had been lost completely and that the vessel was now hitting rocks at Ōmāio Bay in the Bay of Plenty. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12298751
rossd 16
My understanding ,Sounds like a European couple who are somewhat incompetent. Were advised by Whakatane harbourmaster not to attempt the trip from Whakatane to Gisborne at that time. Then attempted to shelter but couldnt anchor. Sent 2 maydays , one each but couldnt give a location. After found the coastguard set there anchor which was later lost resulting in 3rd mayday. Towed back to Whakatane. Fogg 427
Yes indeed. To parody Oscar Wilde - to have 1 Mayday is unfortunate but to have 2-3 Maydays is careless.
