Cutting up a ship, with a chain...

30 years ago a surplus goods trader chap Ray Smith (subsequently beaten near to death in Auckland) tendered for a ship that sunk at a wharf in Fiji and that's what they did. Ran a chain on a windlas around the hull and cut it in half to retrieve the cargo and then into bits to crane away.

Those lifting lugs are massive, wonder what they're made of, looks like 2 inch plate, would have taken months to build them.

And hows the diamater of that rudder shaft, that thing looks like it's 2-3 foot through.

Ive followed this from time to time... being the armchair expert that I am, I have always been surprised they couldn't right her and carry on.

Its a pretty new PCC and I would have taken that pretty personally if she was my ship.

 

These boats are alot more technical than you think.
