Safety is an increasing concern. Anyone that understands the accident pyramid will see the risks of a serious or fatal incident are growing, as evident by the very large number of near-misses and accidents.

Yep, on the tighter courses with a fresh breeze I think pretty much all of the boats are experiencing at least  one near miss and a few are having a  F*^k me where did you come from !!!! moment like when you accelerate briskly out of a car park before narrowly missing the car neatly obscured behind the  A pillar .

Even the best sailors in the world are going to make mistakes, and given enough time eventually someone is going to get hurt. Unfortunately, it's the nature of the beast.

So who do we cheer for now when sitting in the grandstands in Auckland?  The Swedish since they have ETNZ driver?

You might have to if they cant fix the damage in time, apparently the stern fell off but they recovered it before it left the environment. Perhaps they will borrow from F1 and deploy a pace boat to slow the field allowing on water marshals to clear debris  and recover damaged boats before racing recommences

Not to worry.
Just heard Blair Tuke on the radio saying that they can "splice it back on".
So we can wave our NZ flags after all! 😄

They must be using materials other than Cardboard, and Cardboard derivatives or string sellotape and rubber etc all banned.
