Cool Boat

Think the beneteau Figaro 3 is faster .

yeah it’s pricey but try and get something like that built here . Further down the track we might see more of these types of boats coming in 2nd hand , they are being churned out pretty quick in good numbers .

There is a brand new Dehler 30OD in Auckland, and a boat review in the latest issue of BoatingNZ magazine:

"Looking a little like a miniature Volvo boat, the black-hulled Dehler 30od (one design) delivers the best of cutting-edge monohull design in a sleek, go-fast package."

It has a non-gimballed stove which may prevent them getting Cat 2.

And will it beat the Ross 930s?

All the beamy hard chine boats are going to have sticky spots in the light or dead down wind

However shorthanded on a track that has sea room this will be a weapon, it will be able to pick its sweet angles and will be gone, up on the plane with the water ballast in it will be ahead of most of the 35 footers in a RNI type event

930s will have it over it at times ditch racing but that’s not what it’s been imported for, it’s not cheap but still probably half the price of a nz build when you compare apples with apples, I think in a few years we will see more of this type coming into the country secondhand out of Europe

Its nice to see they come with everything but still allow you to get local sails made

Totally agree , there’s no doubt a boat like that could be designed and built here but I think it would be closer to $1 mil than $500k .

it will be luxury for both those guys who only had sitting headroom only in their old boats and pretty much in the bilges on one boat .

Totally agree, passage events are where its at -they wont beat a masthead Ross 30 or a Tigger up or rather down our ever narrowing river, but should be great fun outside as Mark's Far East was .

Bloody accountants, I hate it when they are right.😉

Didn’t Kevin Dibley come on here a few years ago with his pencil sharpened ready to draw a boat ? he’s done a couple of very nice hardchine racers recently so something along the lines of the RM is not too left field .

Elliott has also done two hardchine designs recently for the same builder  , one was ply and beautifully simple .

Like Deep purple said it’s economy of scale that brings the price down . And like K dibley said a couple of years ago , get 10 people together that want the same boat….and the plans will be fairly cheap . Then find a builder to build them all to keep the costs down , a bit .

I was told by the builder the boat below cost 400k-ish about a decade ago and would cost  more to build now .The Dehler 30 is pretty sharply priced really all things considered .
