Battleship 100
Anyone know the story behind this one looks like a very interesting vessel. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Boats-marine/Yachts-sail-boats/Moored-boats/auction-243257210.htm Have noticed it in the harbour before always thought it looked like a boat with a story to tell. Never knew it was a Nova as it's very modified. Found this on google. http://www.oceanware.co.uk/sailing/open50/background/bgRaceHistory76.html
Guest
John Mansell is still around, living in Wellington. Does it still have the bubble on the roof?
Battleship 100
Yes it still has the bubble, hasn't moved in quite some time.

Guest
Not to be confused with Innovator, a Carpenter 29. As I was typing this, I got the InNOVAtor of Mana bit. That may have been a bit obtuse.
MuzzaB 14
John Mansell came unstuck delivering her solo from Auckland back to Wellington after the RNI. 1979 I think (correct me somebody). Innovator was rolled south east of East Cape and John was injured. His story, and his thorough analysis of what he did right and wrong, was covered in Sea Spray at the time. If I recall, there was a television documentary about Innovator's OSTAR participation.
Guest
Anyone know the story behind this one looks like a very interesting vessel.http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Boats-marine/Yachts-sail-boats/Moored-boats/auction-243257210.htm Have noticed it in the harbour before always thought it looked like a boat with a story to tell. I'm the owner of this boat and I'm happy to provide what info I can to anyone who is interested (although I frequently find that people who recognise her know more about her history than I do!). I'm very keen to find a new owner for her because she deserves far better attention than I have been giving her in the last few years. Please feel free to point prospective buyers in my direction! The main external modification to the basic Wright Nova design which John Mansell requested was to raise the topsides 4" and construct a turtle-back deck. The proof of the strength of this construction and the strong rig design meant the boat could be sailed back to Wellington (Mana?) after the capsize off Gisborne.
Guest
Not the only modified Nova to have been sailed seriously offshore. Gerry Clarke's 'Totorore' did an amazing voyage around the Southern Ocean.
