hokianga

Can anyone tell me about the suitability of the Hokianga for dinghy sailing? We're going to be in Rawene for a bit and could take the Hobie, just wondering if it's worth the trouble or not. Are the ramps tidal? How's the sailing? Can't find that there are any clubs sailing regularly, but seems like it should be good.
