These where held at Stump Bay, Turangi, Lake Taupo last weekend.

46 PT's and 12 A Class cats lined up up a 7 race race series.

The PT's came from the four corners of the North island

Auckland 4

Napier 6

New Plymouth 8

Wanganui 5

Wellington 20

oops that does not add up to 46.

Most people arrived on Friday afternoon and pitched their tents, rigged the boats and headed in to town for a feed at the Tongariro Charter Club or the fish and chip shop plus heading to New World for the essential supplies that come in cardboard boxes containing 12 or 15 bottles of various flavours.

As the sun when down the talking started to flow, so of us hit the camp stretches/airbeds before the date changed over, but so continued in to the wee small hours morning of course talking shorthand, about how fast their boats are. Note they finished in the top ten.

The sun came up but the breeze decided to stay down and the sights of the previous nights efforts where all to be seen plus a lot of sunglasses and slow bodies could been seen.

The racing was delayed waiting for the breeze.

Racing finally got under way by about 11:30 with 2 races back to back a break for lunch and then 2 more races back to back finishing about 5:30.

After a quick drip it was off to Turangi for dinner and restock the supplies.

Unfortunately the Sloop had a massive headache plus the neck was out so the camp stretcher had company at 8:30.

Sunday morning the lake front looked the same as Saturday morning, several circle of camping chairs with a piles of empty bottles, yes I did see a lot of MT Gay bottles.

Racing was delayed until the breeze wake up about 11:00 and we completed 2 more races.

I think the breeze up up to about 5 knots for the whole weekend until when the racing had finished and the boats where derigged where it up up to and good 10 - 12 knots.

The top three PT's where

Terry Valdor 1st

John Thomson 2nd

Mark Bell 3rd on a count back.

The Sloop was back at 25th.

It was hard sailing in the middle of the fleet as the legs where quite short and rounding the marks was like the Arc de Triomphe in Paris at rush hour.

Asking for buoy room on six or seven boats, lucky it was light as it would had been a boatbuilders dream.

As the full results where done on the blackboard so I can't post them.

One of the charms of Turangi regattas.

12 A Class is a pretty good turnout.
